ON THE MICROSTRUCTURES OF MILD STEELS AND CORROSION FATIGUE
|
Abstract:
The fatigue crack propagation behaviour of two mild steels with vari- ous microstructures in 3.5% NaCl solution or atmosphere was studied. It is revealed that the microstructures of steel and frequency have considerable influence on the corrosion fatigue strength. The relation between crack closure effect and electroche- mical conditions is discussed. The corrosion fatigue mechanisms, which consider the effect of hydrogen embrittlement and anode dissolution respectively, are pro- posed. A fracture mechanism-map is worked.
