Linearity of Microring-Assisted Mach-Zehnder Optical Modulators

Abstract:
The linearity property of microrings-asisted Mach-Zehnder optical modulators is analyzed,in which loss is taken into account,and the general equation for the condition that the 2nd and 3rd-oder harmonic terms of the modulation characteristic are both zero is derived.It can be found that,for the single-ring- and two-ring-assisted cases,the configurational parameters for the linearized Mach-Zehnder modulators can be directly calculated from analytical formulas.With this analytical formulas,the characteristics of the microring-assisted Mach-Zehnder modulators are investigated.
