Analysis for the Effect of Optical Packet Assembly Mechanism on Self-similar Traffic Shaping
|
Abstract:
Optical packet assembly at the edge router is expected to serve as a traffic shaper to mitigate the adverse influence of self-similar traffic in optical packet-switched networks. The paper aims to fully explore the effects of optical packet assembly on traffic shaping. Our study by simulation shows that optical packet assembly performs self-similar traffic shaping not only by significantly reducing of self-similarity, but also by improving the short-term correlation and the marginal distribution of traffic processes.
