Application of Gene Engineering in Blocking Graft Rejection and Induction of Immune Tolerance

The control of chronic transplant rejection and the induction of transplant graft tolerance today are the hottest research field in transplant immunology. Gene engineering has been widely recognized due to its unique predominance to conquer graft rejection and induce immune tolerance. The efficiency and the safety of the vectors must be comfirmed, and the optimum genes that will be used as the transplant targets for gene therapy were identified, before applying the gene therapy for avoidance of organ transplant rejection. The new progress in clinical application to avoid graft rejection was summarized.
