PHOSPHOINOSITIDES AND CELLULAR EVENTS
|
Abstract:
Signaling roles for phosphoinostides that function as precursors to generate second messengers upon agonist stimulation have been well characterized. Recent work has revealed that phosphoinositides can themselves serve as lipid second messengers to recruit their effector proteins to spatially localized membranes and regulate their assembly or activities. The interactions of phosphoinositides with proteins depend on pleckstrin homology(PH) domains, FYVE domains and phosphotyrosine-binding(PTB) domains.Cellular events in which phosphoinositides have been implicated include ion transport, membrane trafficking, signal transduction, cytoskeletal organization and nuclear gene regulation.
