STUDIES ON THE SCAVENGING EFFECT OF TANSHINONE ON LIPID FREE RADICAL OF CARDIAC SARCOPLASMIC RETICULUM DURING PEROXIDATION
|
Abstract:
The scavenging effect of natural antioxidant Salviol on lipid free radicals generated from lipid peroxidation of cardiac Sarcoplasmic Reticulum was investigated by the use of spin trapping technique and chemiluminescence methods. It was found that Tanshinone at a certain range of concentration could effectively protect SR from peroxidation. When the concentration of Tanshinone was more than 1mg/ml protein, its scavenging effect on lopid free radicals could reach 60%. However, the scavenging effect of Tanshinone on OH was very weak. It appears that the mechanism of the protection of Tanshinone against peroxidation of SR may be through breaking the chain reaCtions of peroxidation by scavenging lipid free radicals, but not preventing the initiation of peroxidation by scavenging the oxygen free radicals.
