ELECTRON MICROSCOPIC OBSERVATION ON THE YOLK-SPHERE CRYSTALS OF Tilapia mossambica
|
Abstract:
The yolk spheres of Tilapia mossmabica have been studied by transmission electron microscopy. The structure of yolk sphere can be distinguished into three main parts: limiting membrane; central crystalline body or bodies and non-crystalline area. The yolk-sphere crystals possess an orthorhombic lattice and the lipovitellin molecular particles in the crystalline body are arrayed in pseudohex-agonal pattern. The mechanism of formation and biological significance of the yolk-sphere crystals are also discussed.
