Hipercalcemia de origen tumoral: estudio de 133 casosKeywords: hypercalcemia, cancer incidence, overall survival, side. Abstract: background and objective: to analyze the hypercalcemia of a tumoral origin detected in an oncologic hospital of 130 beds. the following variables have been considered: topographic tumoral localization, biochemistry profile and overall survival. patients and methods: we have recorded the values of corrected calcium in 10.283 patients with the diagnosis of cancer. serical calcium values equal or higher than 11 mg/dl (2.75 mmol/l) were considered hypercalcemia. results: we have found a total incidence of 1,3%, the highest rates were detected in breast cancer and hematologics tumors. the overall survival was of 312 days. conclusions: despite the reported frequent of the complication, our study has not been found a high incidence (1,3%). this finding suggests a worse prognosis feature in most of the studied cancers. youngest patients showed the highest rates of hypercalcemia and the highest levels of the alkaline phosphatase and lactate dehydrogenase.
