Abstract: the aim of this article is to re-examine the sociological theory of reproduction as it is applied to the relationship between gender and scholar achievement, accordingly to the confluence of two different and opposed pieces of evidence: the increasing proportion of women in higher education, and the mainstream sociological focus on the negative impact of school in the construction of women′s self-confidence. upon the basis of qualitative and quantitative empirical approaches, -interviews to higher education teachers and students, discussion groups and observation- the article proposes an alternative interpretation of the phenomena of scholar feminization.
