Abstract:

a retrospective randomized cohort study (at one and six months) was performed in 65 male wistar rats divided into healthy controls (n= 10), study (n= 28) and positive controls (n= 27). it evaluated the advantages of n-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate adhesive in vascular microsurgery, compared suture time between this adhesive and polypropylene 8/0, assessed suture strength, determined anastomosis permeability and differentiated the vascular histological behaviour. the adhesive was applied in abdominal aorta of rats with 3 retention stitches, intraluminal pressure was measured using conventional barometric techniques, vascular histological behaviour was analyzed and compared with the application of polypropylene 8/0. vascular suture time using the adhesive was 836,29 ± 77,18 s in the study group and 2634,07 ± 97,30 in positive controls, with highly statistical significance (p < 0,000000); allowed pressure with the adhesive, 296,95 ± 6,79mmhg and 252,61 ± 58,71 mmhg in positive controls, with highly statistical significance (p < 0,00544); suture effectiveness was 92,86 % with n-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate and 85,19% with polypropylene, without any differences observed in both groups. cyanoacrylate degraded after 6 months. n-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate was quicker to be applied in vascular surgery, stands more pressure and causes no toxicity.
