The morphoscopic and exoscopic analysis of quartz grains from the eastern sector of the Ebrié lagoon made it possible to determine the environment and reconstruct the sediment deposition environments. To achieve this objective, sediment samples were taken using a Van Veen grab and positioned by a GPS. They are washed with hydrochloric acid. Dry sieving produces medium quartz grains (0.5 - 0.25 mm). The selected quartz grains are observed under a scanning electron microscope (SEM). The morphoscop...

Place attachment is an important content in the study of “people-place” relationship in humanistic geography. As the primary area to undertake urban radiation, suburban villages have undergone tremendous changes in their physical and social environments, and the relationship between people and land in suburban villages has also changed. The place attachment of residents in suburban villages is the result of the interaction between residents and the village environment. By constructing a place at...

Vulnerability to climate change refers to the degree to which a system is susceptible to, or unable to cope with, adverse effects of climate change, including climate variability and extremes. Vulnerability is analyzed in three components: exposure, sensitivity and adaptive capacity. The assessment of vulnerability to climate change has often assumed biophysical and social approaches for the various economic sectors. In this study, we review the concept of social vulnerability to climate change....

Overexploitation of water supplies remains the most serious constraint on its sustainability, and many authorities are confronting serious problems in its management because of growing competition for the ever-dwindling natural resource. The study aims to assess the supply and demand for water in the Walatsi sub-catchment from 2022 to 2030. Data from key informants, experiment, direct observations, and GIS analyses were utilized and analyzed through QGIS software and Microsoft Excel, and a decis...

Protected areas offer opportunities for natural resources management including biodiversity conservation. However, their success is incessantly stalled by non-compliant activities especially illegal hunting of wildlife. The use of empirical and spatially explicit information in understanding spatial patterns of wildlife poaching risk areas within protected areas is thus of paramount importance in implementing effective law enforcement towards anti-poaching. The use of species distribution models...

Kenya’s biological resources are critical in its efforts to achieve sustainable development and ensure improved living standards for its population. The country’s biological resources are diverse and include those that are found in protected areas such as game parks and game reserves, gazetted forests, non-protected areas, water bodies, coastal and marine environments, and in the ASALs. Kenya’s biodiversity strategies derive from a legal regime that includes the constitution and other legislatio...

With the growth of urban populations, the regressive dynamics of the world’s forest areas, particularly in Senegal, have been observed. This situation is manifested in precarious, spontaneous and unplanned housing, leading to urban sprawl. This urban growth also has repercussions on riverside communities, which tend to accommodate more housing due to the availability of land. As a result, urban sprawl affects natural areas, degrading forest massifs. With this in mind, we are studying the commune...

Human activities are considered one of the main contributors towards environmental changes. An assessment of the impacts of land use and land cover changes is necessary to facilitate proper planning and management of environmental resources. The objective of this study was to determine the land use and land cover change hotspots and drivers in lagha bor catchment, Wajir County in Kenya. This was achieved by use of Google Earth Engine (GEE) where archived landsat images of 1986, 1990, 2000, 2010 ...

Groundwater is one of the most important water sources relied upon especially in arid and semi-arid areas where surface water is limited. The sustainability of groundwater resources has been under threat due to land use and land cover changes. This study aims to determine the effects of land use and land cover changes on integrated surface and groundwater resources within the Lagha-Bor catchment for the period 1990 to 2020. Landsat images of 1990, 2000, 2010 and 2020 were used along with integra...
