Radon is the most accessible radioactive gas in life. The radon in ambient air mainly comes from the soil. In order to ensure the accuracy and validity of the measurement of radon concentration in the soil, the paper discusses the influencing factors of the measurement of radon concentration in the soil through the controlled variable method. On the basis of familiarity with the principle of measuring the concentration of radon in the soil, using the radon meter to study the influence of the mea...

Using a portable microcomputer multi-channel gamma spectrometer to directly measure the radioactive content in the soil, the on-site gamma energy spectrum measurement was carried out on the soil of 7 parks in a certain city. The survey results show that the specific activity of 40k in the urban park soil ranges from 470.88 bq/kg to 640.2 bq/kg. The specific activity of 238u ranges from 26.77 bq/kg to 33.31 bq/kg. The specific activity of 232th ranges from 42.14 bq/kg to 54.72 bq/kg. The content ...

This work was carried out in Yucatan Mexico aiming to evaluate the yield performance, Tryptophan (Trp) and Lysine (Lys) contents of two quality protein maize varieties (Sac Beh and Chichen Itza) growing in two Luvisols with low (Lot 1) and high (Lot 2) intensive agricultural use. Six treatments resulted from combining the two varieties with chemical fertilizers (60-80-00):(N-P205-K2O) alone or supplemented with biofertilizers (60-80-00 Mycorrhizae Azospirillum) and the control (00-00-00). Th...

The data on receipt of photo synthetically active radiation (FAR) on the soil surface and the coefficient of its use over the years and periods of the year de-pending on the hydrothermal conditions and dynamics of harmful salts in the soil are given. The items of the changes in the species composition of phytoce-noses depending on the environmental factors are considered.

Depletion of soil fertility is a main problem to sustain agricultural production and productivity in many countries. The use of inorganic or organic fertilizer alone has both positive and negative effects on plant growth, nutrient availa-bility and the soil. Organic fertilizer improves physical and biological activities of soil but they have comparatively low in nutrient content, so larger quantity is required for plant growth. Ho ...

Rural communities in
sub-Saharan Africa develop different livelihood strategies driven by
opportunities and constraints encountered in existing biophysical and
socioeconomic environments. A study on gender effects under two market linkages
on investments in soil conservation innovations in potato production systems
was conducted in the highlands of southwestern Uganda. There were significant
differences in lan ...

In this study, we describe the development of
microbial inoculants for the bioremediation of hydrocarbon-contaminated soils
through the enrichment of hydrocarbonoclastic populations in
municipal solid waste compost (MSWC). Respirometric analyses were performed
along with quantification of total heterotrophic bacteria and ester-linked
fatty acid methyl ester (EL-FAME) profiling of the microbial communities o ...

Soil fertility management is one of the major strategies for improving potato
productivity in the highlands of south-western Uganda. Land belonging to potato
farmers is highly fragmented hindering sustainable potato production under
small-holder farming systems. Land fragmentation brings a major challenge to
small-scale farmers in soil fertility management, increasing costs of
production. However, identifying major soil nutrients ...

Elevated atmospheric CO2 (eCO2)
is anticipated to have marked effects on soil microbial populations. While
there is experimental evidence to support this view there are also studies
where changes in microbial populations, such as the abundance of bacteria, are
suggested but cannot be statistically established. We conducted this study ...

Acacia karroo Hayne is the most important woody invader of grassland in South Africa,
and is one of the fastest-growing acacias, and produces high-density wood. This study
aims to compare the germinative behaviour
of A. karroo seeds collected from two ecotypes geographically and
climatically different (Coastal and Steppic area) in ...
