Treatment Options for Hair Loss: Review ArticleSubject Areas: Biochemistry Keywords: hair loss, androgenetic alopecia,Minoxidil,platelet-rich plasma, exosomes,Microneedling Abstract Background: Hair loss is a common dermatological concern that can significantly affect patients’ psychological well-being and quality of life. Multiple therapeutic modalities are currently available for the management of hair loss, ranging from topical and oral medications to injectable and adjuvant regenerative therapies. Treatment selection depends on the severity and progression of hair loss, patient preference, treatment adherence, and the potential risk of adverse effects. Topical minoxidil remains one of the most widely used Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved therapies for androgenetic alopecia because of its ability to prolong the anagen phase and improve hair density. Injectable therapies such as platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes have shown promising regenerative effects through the stimulation of follicular activity and growth factor release. In addition, adjuvant procedures such as microneedling may enhance therapeutic outcomes by improving topical drug penetration and activating wound-healing pathways. Although many of these therapies demonstrate favorable clinical outcomes, treatment protocols and long-term efficacy remain areas of ongoing research. ?
