Hybrid Ceramo-Polymeric Nanocomposite for Biomimetic Scaffolds Design and Preparation

Raffaella Aversa, Relly Victoria V. Petrescu, Roberto Sorrentino, Florian Ion T. Petrescu and Antonio Apicella
Biomimetics, biomechanics and tissue engineering are three multidisciplinary fields that have been contemplated in this research to attain the objective of improving prosthetic implants reliability. Since testing and mathematical methods are closely interlaced, a promising approach seemed to be the combination of in vitro and in vivo experiments with computer simulations (in silico). An innovative biomimetics and biomechanics approach and new synthetic structure providing a microenvironment, whi...

A review on challenges in synthesis of YFe2O4 multiferroics and their possible solution in comparison to BiFeO3

Alok Tiwari, Apurwa Agrawal
The synthesis of YFe2O4 (YFO) is challenging because of high oxygen stoichiometry, it is a possible origin to realize the series of different phases at low temperature, balance of competing interaction between ions (Fe2+ and Fe3+) gives multiphase. The ionic radius of octahedral Fe-O which include, octahedral Fe-O inter atomic distances determined are for from the one expected for Fe2+ and Fe3+ octahedral ions and weak magnetic behavior and the transition temperature (250 K) also needs some impr...

Catalytic acetylation of (+)-cedrol with heterogeneous catalyst H2SO4/SiO2 under solvent free conditions

Nikesh B. Samarth, Vinayak Kamble , Prakash A. Mahanwar, Ajay Vasudeo Rane, Abitha V. K
Heterogeneous catalyst, H2SO4/SiO2 was synthesized by immobilizing sulfuric acid on silica gel as solid support. Silica gel was prepared from kaolin, originating from Belitung island Indonesia. The synthesized catalyst was characterized by various techniques such as X-Ray diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy and BET method and was applied for the acetylation of (+)-cedrol compound using acetic anhydride under solvent free conditions. The optimum con...

Extraction and applications of aluminum hydroxide from bauxite for commercial consumption

Aluminum, Bauxite, Spectrophotometer, Red mud, Minerals, FT-IR
Bauxite ore was collected from Khyber Pakhtun Khawa (KPK), Pakistan for extraction of aluminum in the form of aluminum hydroxide. The ore consists of 31.11% aluminum and other minerals (SiO2, Fe2O3, Na2O, CaO) was leached with alkaline solution. The aluminum extraction in the form of aluminum hydroxide from the clear solution in filtrate was successfully done by different processes involving autoclave, centrifuge and solvent extraction while the red mud in the form of residue was separated and r...

Synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activities of organotin(IV) complexes with ethylthioglycolate

Naeema Kousar, Saqib Ali, Saira Shahzadi, Lala Rukh, Sadaf Ramzan, Muhammad Shahid, Saroj K. Sharma, Kushal Qanungo
A series of organotin(IV) complexes have been synthesized by reacting ethylthioglycolate with di- and triorganotin halides in 1:1 M/L ratio in methanol under stirring conditions. The newly synthesized complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C). IR results shows that ligand act as monodentate which is also confirmed by semi-empirical study. NMR data reveals four coordinated geometry in solution. Biological activities data demonstrates that complexes...

Effect of trytophan as dopant on potassium acid phthalate single crystals

J. Bhuvana, G. Madhurambal
Optically transparent single crystals of potassium acid phthalate (KAP, 0.5 g) 0.05 g and 0.1 g (1 and 2 mol %) trytophan were grown in aqueous solution by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. Single crystal X- ray diffraction analysis confirmed the changes in the lattice parameters of the doped crystals. The presence of functional groups in the crystal lattice has been determined qualitatively by FTIR analysis. Optical absorption studies revealed that the doped crystals possess very ...
