SATISFACTION OF RETAIL INVESTORS ON THE STRUCTURAL EFFICIENCY OF THE MARKET: EVIDENCE FROM A DEVELOPING COUNTRY CONTEXT
Mamunur Rashid,Md. Ainun Nishat
Asian Academy of Management Journal , 2009,
Abstract: Satisfied investors are a necessary element of the stock market. They help to finance rapid expansion in developing countries. This study explores the components of market structure that contribute to the satisfaction level of retail investors. Around 300 retail investors from 25 randomly selected brokerage houses registered with the Dhaka Stock Exchange, Bangladesh were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. Analyses reveal that most investors were young and inexperienced but educated, with shortages of skills and income. The investors put the strongest emphasis on effective investment analysis, followed by ease of the transaction process, effective information management and timely risk management. The trading experience of these investors was used as a moderating variable to investigate the impact of demographic variables and found to be insignificant. The study suggests the importance of effective regulation, disclosure requirements to ensure a supply of quality information, investor education and technology driven trading in brokerage houses for overall investor satisfaction.

The paper then outlines the pathways available to retail investors, including ESG Public Mutual funds, ESG-themed Stocks, and ESG Private Equity Investment Funds. Finally, the paper discusses strategies for retail investors in ESG investment, such as Negative Screening, ESG Integration, and Corporate Engagement and Shareholder Action. Through analyzing these pathways and strategies, retail investors can gain insights into how to engage in ESG investment, contributing to social sustainability.

Martin P.H. Panggabean
Jurnal Akuntansi dan Keuangan , 2010,
Abstract: Emerging participants in the Indonesia Stock Exchange (ISE) are the group of local retail players, characterized by small, frequent, and short-term trading activities that rely on market phases. Hence it is important for brokerage houses as well as the local retail players to enter the market at the appropriate moments. The goal of this paper, therefore, is to use regime-switching model using the weekly ISE index data to identify periods where the market is in a volatile period. Results from the calculation shows that the market is divided into two regimes: stable and volatile. Average length of period for each regime is 16 weeks and 10 weeks.

- , 2019, DOI: 10.1177/1086026618771669
Abstract: Financial markets play a decisive role in the transition to a low-carbon economy. This study investigates the role of climate information presentation for climate-friendly investing among retail investors. We conduct a choice experiment in which we vary the presentation format of climate information by means of three label designs to test their influence on investment practices. We provide empirical evidence for the effectiveness of climate labeling as a potential nudge for climate-friendly investing. Furthermore, we find heterogeneity in the influence of climate information across different label designs and cognitive characteristics of investors. Intuitive (reflective) decision makers tend to place significantly more (less) weight on funds’ climate performance compared with financial performance—irrespective of a participant’s environmental preference

Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2023, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2023.115125
Abstract: The research has aimed at analyzing the financial performance of IHI Plc before the pandemic and after the pandemic with a specific analysis of the investor’s sentiments associated with it. The Covid-19 pandemic appeared in Wuhan, China, gradually spread across the world in 2020, and it was acknowledged by the WHO as a public health emergency. This created challenges for the organisations to continue their operations and pretend the global equity market and investors due to the higher volatility of the stock market. The pandemic was followed by a financial crisis due to the loss of productivity and economic activity, along with negatively impacting future investment decisions. The study has incorporated research methods of positivism philosophy, deductive approach and descriptive design and collected survey data considering investors for IHI Plc. The correlation and regression tests reflected an understanding that the investor’s sentiments changed with the fluctuations in the financial performance of the company. However, an alternative hypothesis has been considered, thereby rejecting the null hypothesis where it reflected a pandemic effect on IHI’s financial performance as well as investors’ sentiments and participation.

Abstract: Global economic growth in 2008 is likely to be slow, largely as a result of a credit-crunch-inspired slowdown in the US. A deceleration in consumer spending in the US will be the principal reason. Growth in Europe is likely to slow modestly due to a decline in export growth, itself the result of a strong euro, as well as from the effects of the credit crunch. Few trends in global retail is: social responsibility, products are becoming merchandise, retailers as world-class marketers, retail investment in services.

American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2018.83043
Abstract: In Highly professional and complicated industries, the enterprises usually anticipate improving their product or service knowledge system through customer education to let consumers perceive the value and usability of products or service better. Based on retrospection into related research literature, the decision-making process of Chinese fund investors are deeply studied by taking fund investors as the research objects and keeping foothold in service-dominant logic this paper. Thus, the relation among dimensions of fund investor customer expertise and perceived value is built by beginning with the customer’s resource. Through study on 309 Chinese fund investors, it’s found that there is positive correlation among dimensions of customer expertise and perceived value, and the robustness of regression analysis is very good. The conclusion of the research has certain guiding significance for the fund management company to provide professional training to the customers and those with different expertise level.

Abstract: The effectiveness of circuit breakers is widely discussed in previous studies, but few of them distinguish between price limits and market-wide circuit breakers. We develop a two-period Stackelberg game, testing the behavioral change of informed and uninformed investors under different circuit breakers. We find that informed investors become more conservative and trade in smaller sizes under circuit breakers, especially market-wide circuit breakers. But uninformed investors trade quite oppositely. This behavioral change makes stock price less informative, and dominated by investor sentiment. We also contribute the market crash in early January, 2016 to this behavioral change.

Haiyan Xue, Xindong Zhang
Theoretical Economics Letters (TEL) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/tel.2020.105069
Abstract: This paper investigates the relation between investor sentiment and firm innovation investment in China, and explores the intermediary role of institutional investors. We find that the impact of investor sentiment on innovation investment is quite different between state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and private-owned enterprises (POEs). Investor sentiment promotes the innovation investment of POEs, while inhibits SOEs. We also find that institutional investors play a positive intermediary facilitating role in POEs, mainly contributing by supervisor independent institutional investors. We do not find any role for institutional investors in SOEs.
