LITERARY THEMES IN ITALIAN PERIODICALS IN RIJEKA FROM 1900 TO 1919
Mi?kulin, Dolores
- , 2013,
Abstract: Sa?etak Despite the abundance of periodicals in Italian language in Rijeka in the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century, their comprehensive and systematic research together with their modern and objective evaluation is still insufficient. With the aim of contributing to the elucidation and analysis of under-studied Italian publications in Rijeka, we have tried to consider from the contemporary point of view the context in which the subject of our interest appears, to study the available written documents, and to evaluate the facts of literary phenomena within a given corpus. We have tried to substantiate by examples the thesis that literary themes in our local newspapers and magazines of Italian language expression, besides further exploring the Italian literary heritage, have contributed to our overall cultural events through the opening of aesthetic horizons of readers and a number of authors, and have largely contributed to the intertwining of the two cultures. Through testing, systematization and classification of literary topics, we concluded that newspapers and magazines in Rijeka, as the most important medium of the historical period that we examined, have had a significant and dynamic part in the process that led to the gradual change of mindset, views on society and art, and an overall way of thinking and action. In our opinion, through our contribution we have tried to reconstruct from oblivion a valuable segment of Rijeka's cultural heritage
Introducing JOUNBO: A New Advanced Online Journal and Newspaper Browser
Petros Lalos,George S. Tombras
Journal of Multimedia , 2008, DOI: 10.4304/jmm.3.4.26-33
Abstract: Today, digital journals and newspapers are available online by almost any publishing agency. The effect of this rapidly growing use creates an increased demand for solutions which allow handling, organizing and distributing of high quality digital content in a quick, device independent and minimum network resourcing manner. This work presents a realistic solution based on a simple principle. A high resolution “mother image” is stored on an image server. This “mother image” serves as the foundation for subsequent image slices that are used for websites display with the potential of having a vast number of resolutions, depending on a client’s online request.

On Normative and Stylistic Parallel Forms of the Standard Language in the Newspapers and Periodicals of the 19th and the First Half of the 20th Centuries
Ri?ner, Vlasta
- , 2018, DOI: 10.17234/Croatica.42.16
Abstract: Sa?etak The article discusses the existence of parallel forms in various spelling, morphological and syntactic characteristics of Croatian newspapers and periodicals from the 19th and the first half of the 20th centuries (until the mid-1940). Special attention is paid to the realization of the vocalic /r?/ and of the phoneme /?/, to the reflex of the long yat, to old-?tokavian and new-?tokavian endings for the plurals of the dative, locative and instrumental cases and to the use of present participles as attributes. The analysis has shown that a larger part of the newspaper and magazine corpus records no fast and thorough normative changes on any of the compared levels. In addition to normative variants, the analysis has also included stylistic variants on the syntactic level (nominalised/non-nominalised expressions). The analysis has also included the decomposition of a one-verb predicate into a two-word predicate consisting of a semisemantic verb (the analysed examples contain auxiliary or modal verbs) and a noun, as well as complex verbal predicates consisting of infinitives followed by the auxiliary verb biti (be) in impersonal clauses with modal meaning
Miroslav Krle?a in the Emigrant Newspapers and Magazines from the Personal Papers of Nikola ?olak
Bosnar, Marijan
- , 2015,
Abstract: Sa?etak This article uses numerous periodicals (newspapers and magazines) from the personal papers of Nikola ?olak (1914-1996), Croatian historian, publicist and post-WWII emigrant, as the source of attitudes of the Croatian political emigration towards the renowned Croatian writer Miroslav Krle?a (1893-1981), the leading Croatian cultural figure in the past century, influential in both Croatia and Yugoslavia during the latter’s socialist period. These periodicals were published by the Croatian emigrantcommunity throughout the world (United Kingdom, Sweden, Federal Republic of Germany, Australia, USA and Argentina) and many articles dealt with Krle?a’s work as a writer and more often, as a left-wing political figure, close to Marshal Tito and his form of communism. After mentioning Krle?a’s own thoughts on the extreme right-wing part of Croatian émigrés, the article chronologically documents the important contents of various émigré texts about Krle?a, written a few years before and shortly after his death. A special emphasis is put on the points of objection the Croatian émigrés often brought against Krle?a. These were most evidently stated in the newspaper of the Australian branch of the Croatian Peasant Party in exile, Hrvatska istina (The Croatian Truth), where Krle?a was accused among other things of a lack of patriotism, close fraternization with Tito, public silence after 1945 and being a coward and a traitor to Croatian national interests. In an endeavour to reach Krle?a’s own views and thoughts on these issues the second part of the article looks into the publicized memoir and interview works of some of his close associates and members of his inner circle, supplemented by parts of his own political essays, one of his letters and the conclusions of literary scholarship. Thusly, it is possible to point the research into the direction of both parties. The article concludes that the analysed newspapers and magazines demonstrate Croatian political émigrés’ view of Krle?a as anything but unambiguous i.e., including distinctive affirmation, moderate criticality and utter refutation. This leaves enough space for future research and also a possibility for revising some of the still present public perceptions about Krle?a’s demeanour after 1945
NOVELAS-FOLLETíN Y LA AUTORíA FEMENINA EN LA SEGUNDA MITAD DEL SIGLO XIX EN CHILE
Carol Arcos
This paper seeks to highlight the problem of female authorship in the second half of the nineteenth century in Chile, considering the publication strategies and the genres of literary discourse privileged by women writers. In this context, the feuilleton-novel is seen as a genre that allowed writers to provide the author-function, within the larger process of emergence of a public space and the construction of an incipient cultural/intellectual fried.

Open Journal of Political Science (OJPS) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/ojps.2020.103023
Abstract: The movement of populations is something that has been happening throughout history and is currently a key element in all the political agendas. The impact that the media has on the general opinion of society is undoubtable. With the systematic review of the headlines of four key Spanish Newspapers during the period of 2007-2012, we were looking for the tendencies and differences of 5 key newspapers concerning the same event at the same time. The following keywords in Spanish (Dugout, Sub Saharan, Moroccan, Avalanche, Massive arrival, Refugees, Alien law, Internment centers, Human trafficking, Trafficking) have been searched for in a Spanish newspaper repository. The results have been confronted between the newspapers, obtaining clear differences on the importance and the usage of the language repetition of terms to become opinion generators depending on the political moment of the country and the editorial line of the media.

Bill Reader
- , 2018, DOI: 10.1177/0739532918765467
Abstract: Closures and mergers resulted in a net loss of more than 1,800 newspapers from 2004 to 2015, the overwhelming majority of them weeklies. But community weeklies remain the most common (70 percent of all newspapers), and community dailies and weeklies account for 62 percent of overall print circulation. Less than 2 percent of newspapers are “metro dailies,” which account for less than 30 percent of overall print circulation
Origen, clasificación y desafíos de las Revistas Científicas
Mendoza,Sara?; Paravic,Tatiana;
Investigación y Postgrado , 2006,
Abstract: this article provides a historical review of the scientific magazine emphasizing the following three aspects: classification, evaluation and challenges concerning their impact and certification. modern science historical context has provided conditions for the formal circulation of scientific research and the emergence, in 1665, of the scientific journal. considering science as a social institution, researchers in the sixties developed sciencemetry as a discipline to study the quantitative aspect of scientific information. in the present, only magazines, indexed in well established data bases are selected to spread new forms of knowledge. this dynamic pushes latin american publications to the periphery of the academic circle minimizing their international presence. the positive increment of scientific production is localized in brazil, chile and mexico in engineering, technology, biology and health. the conclusion points to the necessity to maintain the publication of latin-american scientific journals in order to build a strong intellectual information pool or otherwise disappear in the short term making regional scientific research invisible. the material published about the impact indicators and the hegemony of the english language has consolidated the leading position of latindex and scielo and therefore it is a sign of the improving indicators of latin american science. several actions can be taken to improve even further the referee system, among them bringing forward authors and reviewers, standardizing the reviewing parameters and continuous training of reviewers.
