Desabastecimento de medicamentos: determinantes, conseqüências e gerenciamento
Reis,Adriano Max Moreira; Perini,Edson;
Ciência & Saúde Coletiva , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-81232008000700009
Abstract: the present study analyzes drug shortage as a problem reaching beyond the logistic aspect of the health field and discusses its consequences with respect to quality, safety and cost of health care delivery. the pharmaceutical supply chain and the factors that determine the distribution and availability of drugs are discussed. the contribution of the pharmacy and therapeutics committee in preventing and managing drug shortage in health institutions is stressed and measures for drug shortage management are suggested. finally it is emphasized that drugs should be considered health products rather than consumer goods and as such be given a different treatment by the supply chain.

Abstract: This article describes the implications of shortages of pharmaceutical products used in conditioning and supportive care regimens of pediatric patients undergoing a hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in a tertiary care hospital. Between July 2011 and July 2016, a total of 84 individual shortages, affecting 22 different drugs (79.8% supportive care drugs; 20.2% chemotherapeutics) were detected with a mean duration of 85 days (SD 138) per individual drug shortage. Eighteen shortages were critical and very urgent. Sulfamethoxazol/trimethoprim, piperacillin/tazobactam, ranitidine, benzylpenicillin, ondansetron (supportive care) and methotrexate, melphalan (chemotherapeutics) had the longest supply disruptions. A variety of solutions could be identified including the purchase of a generic alternative (36.9%) for both oral and parenteral treatments (in a ratio 3:2). Urgent import from another (European) country was performed in 14 cases (16.7%). High impact solutions such as cohorting of patients and change of ongoing treatments (2.4%) were used for parenteral treatments only. Pharmaceutical modification was sometimes applied for oral treatments (2.4%). Due to persistent occurrence of these shortages, an efficient pharmacy workflow (electronic follow-up by end of 2016) and a multidisciplinary approach were needed

Abstract: Sa?etak INTRODUCTION AND AIM Drug shortages (DS) cause many problems for physicians, health care facilities, patients and regulatory bodies. This study was performed to determine which medicines, depending on Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) classification system and route of administration, were short in supply in public pharmacies in Montenegro during one-year period. METHODS Given the lack of national database of medicines in short supply, required information were obtained through semi-structural interviews about DS during 2018, with pharmacists employed in three public pharmacies, randomly selected from each region of the country. This prospective study was carried out within the framework of a two-year National project on DS in Montenegro. RESULTS Most of the drugs short in supply were Ophthalmological drugs (ATC code S01) in the form of eye drops, with prevalence of anti-glaucoma preparations and miotics (S01E), such as pilocarpine, timolol and travoprost. The second place was taken by Antidepressants (N06A) for oral administration, like amitriptyline, escitalopram and mianserin. They were followed by Antibacterial drugs for systemic application (J01), such as cefuroxime and ceftriaxone, and Psycholeptics (N05), most often Antipsychotics (N05A), like promazine, and Anxiolytics (N05B), like bromazepam. CONCUSLION Patients with eye diseases, especially glaucoma, were mostly affected by DS during the one-year period in Montenegro. In second place are patients with depression, in which the lack of the right remedy can have serious consequences, including suicide. It is necessary that all members in the supply chain take additional measures and activities in order to reduce this problem. This research was financially supported by the Ministry of Science of Montenegro

American Journal of Operations Research (AJOR) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ajor.2012.22029
Abstract: In this paper an inventory model is developed with time dependent power pattern demand and shortages due to deterioration and demand. The deterioration is assumed to follow a two parameter Weibull distribution. Three different cases with complete, partial, no backlogging are considered. The optimal analytical solution of the model is derived. Suitable numerical example has been discussed to understand the problem. Further sensitivity analysis of the decision variables has been done to examine the effect of changes in the values of the parameters on the optimal inventory policy.
Anticipated Actions to Reduce Energy Shortages in the Residential Sector  [PDF]
Abdullah M. Al-Shaalan
Energy and Power Engineering (EPE) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/epe.2018.109027
Abstract: This study investigates the electric energy shortages impact upon the residential sector in Riyadh city, the capital of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) resulting from severe power outages. The results reveal the extent of hardship and high costs the residential will suffer and endure. These outages occur and extend for longer durations. To mitigate these consequences, a method is suggested known as “willingness-to-pay” to seek the ability and willingness of consumers to pay to avert these power outages and energy shortages. Two approaches have been developed and utilized. The first one is based on a consumer survey to estimate his perceived costs. Outages occur in specific periods and last for longer durations. The second approach focussed on developing a mathematical model to complement the survey approach as this model can decrease the size of the problem complexity associated with consumer lack of experience in evaluating and assessing the worth of service reliability and quality.

Abstract: Recently, there have been gross shortages in housing in Asaba. This has led to high demand for accommodation, consequently increasing the prices of rent. This study assessed the spatial housing affordability problems and recommended marketing policy options to improve housing delivery in Asaba. This study deployed a survey research design. A modified Likert-type questionnaire was designed and used as an instrument for data gathering. The area was stratified into high, medium, and low-income residential areas, and Taro Yamane was used to get a sample size of 400 respondents. The simple random sampling techniques were used to distribute the questionnaire. Data were presented in tables, and the Kruskal-Wallis test was deployed for data analysis. The results indicate that high land costs (81.9%), increasing cost of construction materials and labour (89.5%), limited access to housing finance (98%), and the activities of real estate speculators (97.2%) were among factors affecting housing affordability and were significantly same across the area at P > 0.05. The consequences of these include forcing many residents to live in overcrowded conditions (78.9%), spending a large share of their income on rent or mortgage payments (89.2%), and many residents resorting to informal settlements due to unaffordable housing (61.5%). Asaba housing marketing businesses are making use of internet marketing approaches, including social media advertising. However, 73% of the respondents disagreed that internet marketing approaches have increased affordability or lowered rent prices. It is recommended in this study that the government should tackle the problem of excessive interest rates and collateral to be paid for a mortgage. Also, subsidies by the government, rent control, and public-private partnership should be deployed by the government in the area.
Effects of Uncertain Inflationary Conditions on an Inventory Model for Deteriorating Items with Shortages
Abolfazl Mirzazadeh
Journal of Applied Sciences , 2010,
Abstract: This study proposes an inventory model with stochastic internal and external inflation rates for deteriorating items and allowable shortages. The many economic, political, social and cultural variables affect the inflation rates. For instance, economic factors such as changes in the world inflation rate, demand level, labor cost, cost of raw materials, exchange rates, unemployment rate, productivity level, tax, liquidity, etc are effective in this direction. Therefore, the assumption of constant inflation rates is not valid, especially, when the time horizon is long. This model considers stochastic inflationary conditions. Numerical examples are used to illustrate the theoretical results, which are further clarified through a sensitivity analysis on the model parameters. It has been shown that the optimal solution is highly sensitive to considerable uncertainty of the inflation rates.
