Abstract:

Based on the returning land for farming to forestry project, Guangyuan government generates a 6666.6 hm2 Olea europaea Linn base, to form the Olea europaea Linn oil industry. It has an important significance to reduce soil erosion of the upper reaches of Jialing River and improve the ecological environment, which can promote the development of local economy. However, Guangyuan Olea europaea Linn oil industry is in the initial stage, which has no existing experience. The local people know little about the Olea europaea Linn oil and show less enthusiasm. There are some disadvantages in the construction process, such as, single operation mode, inadequate application of science and technology, ineffective management after planting. The author uses in-depth study to solve the problems. Community participation method can be used to raise the farmers’ awareness. Industrialization model uses various modes, such as, household or individual contract, joint- stock cooperation, with science and technology fully applied, which can mobilize the enthusiasm and make the Olea europaea Linn industry become the leading enterprise in Guangyuan.

Agricultural Sciences (AS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/as.2016.74022
Abstract: Verticillium wilt is one of the most significant agricultural diseases in the world, in view of the fact that not only does it affec olive groves but also a wide variety of fruit, vegetable and ornamental plants. Currently, the most efficient and economical method of control involves the use of plant species that are resistant to the disease. However, as there are few varieties of olive tree with this characteristic, early diagnosis and the replacement of affected trees are key strategies to combat the disease. The present research proposes the use of a canine unit that is specifically trained to detect Verticillium dahliae as an early detection method for the fungus in olive groves. For the odorous samples are produced in the laboratory from V. dahliae, it is calculated that the dog dis-plays a level of sensitivity of 97% and specificity of 95%, and an initial field assay shows that the sensitivity and specificity are constant when working with infected olive trees. In view of the fact that there is currently no curative treatment for this disease and the affected plants are completely lost, fast on-site detection provides significant advantages in terms of preventing the transmission of the disease. Moreover, it also enables focalized treatment to be provided on plots of land and plants and, in combination with the latest prevention methods, real-time detection of affected olive trees enables a reduction in the costs involved in vaccination, thereby contributing overall to a reduction in the financial losses caused by verticillium wilt.

Abstract: using pcr-based assays with specific primers for amplification of the ribosomal dna intergenic spacer region (igs) and a portion of the mitochondrial dna small subunit ribosomal rna gene (mtdna ssu rrna), the genetic variability among verticillium dahliae isolates from olive (olea europaea) and other host species from argentina and brazil was estimated. the derived upgma-generated phenograms based upon the restriction fingerprinting data of rdna igs products revealed genetic differences, correlating with the host of origin. isolates infecting olive genetically distinct from those from cocoa (theobroma cacao) and sunflower (helianthus annuus). digestion of mitochondrial dna ssu rrna pcr products revealed less variability, distinguishing only one isolate from sunflower. ribosomal dna its restriction patterns were identical for all isolates of v. dahliae, irrespective of host of origin. these preliminary results may have relevance for verticillium wilt control practices, possibly reflecting a different evolutionary origin, or reproductive isolation of the pathogen in olive, distinct from populations of other hosts.

Idesia (Arica) , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-34292012000100005
Abstract: interventions which accelerate the fruit maturation of olives planted in cold climates are necessary to advance the harvest and not allow the fruit to be exposed to early freezes which may have negative effects on the quality of the oil. in autumn (28 april) 2006 we applied 0, 100, 200, 300 and 400 mg-l-1 abscisic acid (aba) to trees of the variety of arbequina at the beginning of veraison in an orchard in melipilla, metropolitan region, chile, in order to evaluate its effect on the acceleration of fruit maturation. the experimental design was completely randomized; the means of the treatments were compared by anova and tukey's test (p<0.05). the application of aba produced a strong defoliation of the trees, together with a marked fruit fall, especially at 300 and 400 mg-l-1. fruit maturation was retarded, expressed as a delay in the development of color for trees treated with 400 mg-l-1 aba. the treatments did not produce an effect on the oil content measured as a proportion of dry weight. the following year (2007), those trees treated with 300 and 400 mg-l-1showed a significant reduction in fruit harvested per tree, which may be due to an effect of the aba applied on the processes of induction or initiation of bud differentiation.

Koroneiki

Abstract: The aim of this work is to study the phytochemical and antibacterial screening of Olea sp. leaves collected from Albaha region in Saudi Arabia. Elements such as Tannins, Steroids, flavonoids, coumarines, terpenoids, anthocyanates and proteins were detected when examining the Olea sp. Plant. The antibacterial activity was carried out by agar well diffusion method; Ampicillin was used as positive control and DMSO as negative control. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined by using Micro dilution method. The results concluded that the aqueous extract of the plant showed lower antibacterial activities while the Ethanolic extract of Olea sp. was the most active extract against the pathogenic bacteria. The Ethanolic extract of Olea sp. was active against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, E. coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Salmonella sp. with MIC values ranged from 31.2-62.5 μl/ml. The obtained data from the Olea sp. plant confirmed its wide application for therapeutic purposes in alternative therapy

Abstract: in this study, a total of 14 agronomic traits, five aflp primer combinations and ten ssr loci were used to describe and to classify a group of tunisian olive genotypes into groups based on molecular profiles and agronomic traits. the analysis of variance of the agronomical data revealed significant differences among accessions for all measured traits. the mean phenotypic dissimilarity (0.34 with a range of 0.08-0.6) was low in comparison to dissimilarity calculated using aflp (0.50 with a range of 0.16-0.70) and ssr markers (0.76 with a range 0.35-0.94). the correlation between the agronomical dissimilarity matrix and the matrices of genetic dissimilarity based on ssr and aflp markers was very weak: 0.156 (p = 0.05) and 0.185 (p = 0.05), respectively. the ssr-aflp dendrogram based on unweighted pair-group cluster analysis using jaccard's index revealed that the genetic diversity was predominantly structured according to fruit size. a trend of clustering together of accessions originating from the same or adjacent regions was also observed. the data obtained can be used for the varietal survey and construction of a database of all olive varieties grown in tunisia and providing also additional information that could form the basis for the rational design of breeding programs.
