Nanotechnology: An Urgent Need  [PDF]
Francisco M. Marquez Linares
Soft Nanoscience Letters (SNL) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/snl.2013.33008
Abstract:

From the first forecasts and expectations of nanotechnology, in the late 90s, there are many things that have changed and too many expectations not fulfilled. By 2050, the population is expected to exceed 9 billion people. At that time, or even before, the situation in the world can be very difficult if we do not put all the means at our disposal.

Development of Nanotechnology for Manned and Unmanned Aircraft: Perspectives on Jet Engines, Fuels, Spacecraft, AI, and Sustainability  [PDF]
Yusuf Karimli, Thomas J. Webster
Advances in Nanoparticles (ANP) , 2025, DOI: 10.4236/anp.2025.144010
Abstract: These days, nanotechnology has provided an enormous benefit to the aviation and aerospace industries for improved manufacturing, spacecraft, fuels, health, and more. The objective of this paper is to review and propose a higher level of nanotechnology development in the aviation industry. While space exploration and tourism have sparked an appreciation for Earth’s environmental changes from space, numerous criticisms have highlighted the significant negative impact space travel has made on the environment. Here, nanotechnology is presented as a field that can both enhance space tourism and mitigate its environmental impact on the Earth. Specifically, this paper starts with a review of what material properties are needed for space exploration and suggests the use of nanotechnology in the development of improved composite materials for jet engines, propulsion, and durability, considering aeronautical standards and aerospace developments, and introducing the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). This research includes aerospace and aeronautical industry manufacturers, their new nanotechnological strategies and breakthroughs, as well as failed attempts during manufacturing or operations. Addressing the failures, this research indicates possible future steps for developing nanotechnology in unmanned and manned aircraft to reduce harm to the environment while still achieving space exploration.
Nano Whiskers ..A “BIG” discussion on “SMALL” things..
Ruchi Sharma
International Journal of Computers & Technology , 2012,
Abstract: Technologyis shrinking fast. Computing technology that would have filled awarehouse 30 years ago can now be squeezed onto a chip a fraction ofthe size of your thumbnail. The very smallest scale of engineering is called nanotechnology. Ananometer is a billionth of a meter, about the width of ten atoms. Nanotechnology may, one day, be capable nanorobotics, nanorobots ornanobots. Working at an almost atomic level, nanobots could buildcomplex items cheaply and repair clothes, equipment and even peoplewithout being noticed. They could also be used to rid the atmosphere ofpollution and to repair holes in the ozone layer.

Abstract: The consolidation process of the European Aerospace Industry has implied a continuousprocess of cooperation and mergers during the last decades, initially within the national borders, butnow increasingly across these borders. Working in an international team, with linguisticdiversification and other cultural differences, will require a global mind setting which goes beyond amere technical education. In the framework of the educational reform within the European Unioninitiatives have been taken with the objective to harmonize the educational systems of the differentcountries and to introduce new international oriented study curricula based on two main study cycles. The objective of this paper is to present the Partnership of an European Group of Aeronautics andSpace Universities (PEGASUS) - a chance for the aerospace higher education in Romania.
Numerical Simulation of Helicopter Cockpit Seat subjected to Crash Impact

Research Journal of Applied Sciences, Engineering and Technology , 2013,
Abstract: Sikorsky S-61 or better known as “Nuri” had served the Malaysian aviation sector for the past four decades. It is mainly used for transportation, combat search and rescue purposes. However, there were Nuri helicopter crashes or accident cases reported during its operation period which involved loss of its occupants. The pilot survivability rate can be improved provided that the vertical impact loading on the helicopter is reduced during the crash accident. Utilization of an energy absorbing pilot seat or cockpit structure maybe one of the approaches to minimize the impact shock exerted to the occupants. However, the shock or maximum acceleration of the cockpit/pilot seat has to be first determined before a thorough design scheme can be undertaken. In this study, a vertical crash event of the Nuri pilot seat from 500 feet altitude was simulated and the maximum acceleration rate was determined using MSC PATRAN/LSDYNA. The pilot survivability was determined by comparing the result with human tolerance criteria data available in other published works. From the result, it was found that the maximum acceleration of the Nuri pilot seat was 584.4g at 19. 63 milliseconds, thus it can be concluded that the survivability aspect of the pilot is fatal when compared to other published works.

This may allow scientists to know early about the case and provide the potential of stopping the problem at earlier stages.
Application of NMR Relaxometry to Study Nanostructured Poly(vinyl alcohol)/MMT/Cephalexin Materials for Use in Drug Delivery Systems  [PDF]
Antonio de Pádua Castelo Branco Cunha, Maria Inês Bruno Tavares, Emerson Oliveira da Silva
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2016.77034
Abstract: Polymers containing nanoparticles dispersed and distributed in the matrix can be used for control of drug release. In this work, hydrophilic matrix systems were prepared using poly(vinyl alcohol) and unmodified clay containing the same amount of cephalexin. The materials were obtained through in situ polymerization and were characterized by the conventional technique of FTIR and NMR relaxometry, through determination of proton spin-lattice relaxation time, in order to understand the molecular behavior of the new materials. The NMR relaxometry data showed that the new materials containing low quantities of clay (0.25% and 0.75%) and the same amount of cephalexin (0.5 g) had very good dispersion and distribution of the clay and drug in the polymer matrix. The combination of clay and cephalexin formed a more homogenous material with a narrow domain curve and low relaxation values. The material containing 0.25% clay presented a mixed morphology, with part exfoliated and part intercalated, as could be seen from the relaxation domain distribution, which was larger than that for material with 0.75% clay.

Journal of Biomaterials and Nanobiotechnology (JBNB) , 2020, DOI: 10.4236/jbnb.2020.111002
Abstract: The need to have an express regulation covering nanotechnology has been the subject of debate in the scientific literature and identified as one of the main subsets of nanotechnology field research. However, most countries still do not have regulatory framework in order to guarantee consumer safety. This is the case of Costa Rica, one of the most promising countries in Latin America in terms of biotechnology and nanotechnology. This article presents a statistical study about the position of industry, academia and government institutions on the need to expressly regulate nanotechnology in Costa Rica. A qualitative study consisting of a survey of 79 forms was done to individuals representing the community involved with nanotechnology and institutions responsible for ensuring the safety of the citizen’s health, to conclude that the nanotechnology regulation should be created to protect the consumer in Costa Rica. The research also proposes aspects that should be taken into account in its drafting as well as the variables on which decisions should be made to authorize the commercialization of nanomaterials based on the findings of the literature.
