Abstract:

Children especially in rural areas of Okada have high rates of intestinal parasitosis with a prevalence of 50%. Stool and blood sample were collected of 334 children which comprised of 152 females and 185 males. Intestinal parasitosis was confirmed by direct smear technique and formol-ether concentration method. Serum IgE level was estimated by ELISA method. It was revealed that children between the ages of 11 - 15 years had the highest incidence of intestinal parasite in both sex (73.3% of the males and 62.5% of the females). About 2-fold elevation in serum IgE level was demonstrated. Intervention program including early introduction of health education to children is advocated and environmental sanitation should be encouraged.

Abstract: A cross-sectional study involving 384 consecutive diarrheal patients who visited Gondar teaching hospital, Gondar, Ethiopia from October 2006 to March 2007 was conducted. Stool specimens were collected and examined for intestinal parasites and enteropathogenic bacteria following standard parasitological and microbiological procedures.Intestinal parasites were diagnosed in 36.5% of the patients. The most frequently encountered protozoan parasite was Entamoeba histolytica/dispar (7.3%) followed by Giardia lamblia (5.0%), Cryptosporidium parvum (1.8%) and Isospora belli (1.3%). The dominant helminthic parasite identified was Ascaris lumbricoides (5.5%) followed by Strongyloides stercoralis and Schistosoma mansoni (3.1% each), hookworm infection (1.8%), and Hymenolepis species (1.3%). Multiple infections of intestinal parasites were also observed in 6.3% of the patients. Among the enteropathogenic bacteria Shigella and Salmonella species were isolated from 15.6% and 1.6%, respectively, of the patients. Escherichia coli O57:H7 was not found in any of the stool samples tested. Eighty eight percent and 83.3% of the Shigella and Salmonella isolates were resistant to one or more commonly used antibiotics, respectively.Intestinal parasitosis was higher in patients who live in rural area, in patients who were washing their hands after visiting toilet either irregularly with soap and without soap or not at all, in patients who used well and spring water for household consumption, and in patients who had nausea (P < 0.05). Statistically significant associations were also observed between Shigella infections and patients who were using well and spring water for household consumption, and patients who had dysentery and mucoid stool (P < 0.05).The high prevalence of intestinal parasites and Shigella species in diarrheic patients calls for institution of appropriate public health intervention measures to reduce morbidity and mortality associated with these diseases. The rational use

Abstract: this study showed different frequencies of intestinal parasitosis (giardiasis and helminthiasis) among children in day-care centers and junior and high schools (public and private). the survey involved 199 individuals, 96 belonging to public schools and 103 to private institutions. the frequency of giardiasis in public institutions was shown to be greater than in private institutions. regarding helminthiasis, frequencies were similar among day-care centers, but greater for public schools in comparison to private institutions. when levels of socio-economic status, education, basic sanitary conditions and hygiene were analyzed as determinants of intestinal parasitosis, it became evident that greater frequency of giardiasis and helminthiasis occurred among children from low-income families and those whose parents had low levels of education. the source of vegetables was also a significant factor in determining such parasitosis.

Abstract: In countries with developed health systems as ours, the report of parasitic diseases with torpid evolution is very rare. When they occur, they are rapidly detected and treated and thus don’t become death causes. A case is presented of a 32 year old woman to whom a poliparasitismo caused her to die.

Abstract: Objective: Malaria and intestinal parasitosis represent real public health problems in the world, in Africa and in Chad. They remain common diseases affecting many people, particularly malnourished children, who remain the most vulnerable. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of malaria and intestinal parasitosis in malnourished children with anemia. Material and methods: This study included 325 malnourished children aged 0 to 5 years admitted to the Therapeutic Nutrition Units of the two hospitals in the province of N’Djamena. The children were sampled and diagnosed with malaria by thick drop and intestinal parasitosis by the Willis method, and the hemoglobin dosage was carried out using the HemoCue Hb 301 + analyzer. Results: Of the 325 malnourished children with a mean age of 16.59 months, 273 (84%) were diagnosed positive for malaria and intestinal parasitosis, 52 (16%) were malnourished children due to nutrient deficiencies unrelated to parasites (ρ = 0.001). Of the 273 malnourished children with parasites, 187 (68.5%) were diagnosed positive for Plasmodium falciparum malaria associated with different types of anemia, 48 (17.6%) harbored intestinal parasites in association with different types of anemia and 38 (14%) cases of malaria-intestinal parasitosis coinfection. The parasitic index showed a predominance of protozoa 46% of Entamoeba histolytica. Conclusion: This study determined high prevalence’s of intestinal and blood parasites associated with anemia in malnourished children. Malnutrition is an aggravating factor for parasitosis, but treatment in specialized units with antiparasitic, iron Malnutrition is an aggravating factor in parasitic infections, but periodic deworming with antiparasitic and antimalarial drugs in cases of fever could have contributed to the reduction in the prevalence of digestive parasitic infections and malaria in malnourished children in the province of N’Djamena.

Intestinal parasitism (IP) is still a health problem in Central America and Caribbean Countries. An applied, epidemiological, descriptive, cross-sectional research was conducted at the urban district of Orange Walk , Belize in 2009 with the purpose of identifying the causal factors of epidemiological risk. The target group was comprised of 566 children (0-4 years old), the sample (400 children) was taken by means of intentional non-probabilistic sampling and a direct feces examination; representing two sampling strata. Empiric methods of investigation were used: questionnaires, observation guidebook and theoretical. To process the data, descriptive statistics, absolute and relative frequencies were used; ratios, rate with relative risk, comparison of two and k-proportions, plus non-parametric chi square test as well. More positive feces prevailed over negative ones, observing no relation to the sex and the onset of parasites, children of 3-4 years old prevailed. The rate of medica
