Abstract: we present the case of a four-year-old boy with a history of repeated upper respiratory tract infections and pyoderma. he presented fever, seizures, inhability to talk, loss of swallowing, fine tremor in the upper extremities; positive bilateral babinski reflex and quadriparesis. the diagnosis of bruton's disease and generalized microporidiosis was based on immunologic analysis, smear tests with chromotrope r2 stain and indirect immunofluorescense with monoclonal 3b6 antibody for encephalitozoon species in samples of spinal fluid, bronchial and paranasal sinus aspirates and stool, which were all positive. the patient was treated with albendazol during 72 days; he left the hospital in a good condition, walking, talking and able to swallow. his laboratory test controls were negative; he is followed up in the outpatient department

Microsporidiosis: una parasitosis de reciente adaptación al hombre
Chinchilla C.,Misael; Reyes L,Lilliana; Guerrero B.,Olga Marta; Castro C,Alfredo;
Revista Costarricense de Ciencias Médicas , 1998,
Abstract: microsporidiosis is a recent and important disease related particularly specially with problems of immunosuppression as is the case in aids. the authors mention several studies related with this parasitosis, especially the presentation, for the first time in costa rica and probably in central america, of enterocytozoon bieneusi or nosema infestation in human. some data dealing with the history of this parasitosis are mentioned, and the morphology of the known genera and species is briefly described. notes on the epidemiology and transmissión of these organisms, as well as the pathology produced by microsporidial infection are also presented. the more relevant and useful diagnostic methods, and the known treatment and prevention measures are indicated.
Enterocytozoon bieneusi (ORDEN MICROSPORIDIA, FAMILIA Entrerocytozoonidae) IN COSTA RICA: REPORT OF THE FIRST HUMAN CASE IN CENTRAL AMERICA
MISAEL CHINCHILLA,LILLIANA REYES,OLGA M GUERRERO,MAURICIO FRAJAN
Parasitología al día , 1997,
Abstract: The first case of microsporidiosis in Central America is described in an AIDS patient from Costa Rica. Electronic microscopy studies indicate that the spores were not included in a parasitophorous vacuola, but they are in direct contact with the cell cytoplasm. Sporogonic proliferative plasmodial forms presence ana localization of the polar tubes in the anterior region of the spore, confirmed the specie Enterocytozoon bieneusi as the cause of this microsporidian infection
Viscoelastic description of electron subsystem of a semi-bounded metal within generalized

Condensed Matter Physics , 2011,
Abstract: Viscoelastic description of the electron subsystem of a semi-bounded metal on the basis of the generalized "jellium" model using the method of nonequilibrium statistical Zubarev operator is proposed. The nonequilibrium statistical operator and the quasi-equilibrium partition function calculated by means of the functional integration method are obtained. Transport equations for nonequilibrium mean values of electron density and momentum are received in the Gaussian approximation and in the following higher approximation that corresponds to the third-order cumulant averages in calculation of the quasi-equilibrium partition function.
Ceratoconjuntivite por Encephalitozoon hellem em periquitos agapornis (Agapornis spp.) no Brasil: relato de caso
Nakamura, A.A.;Homem, C.G.;Garcia, S.D.;Meireles, M.V.;
Arquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-09352010000400009
Abstract: a clinical case of keratoconjunctivitis by encephalitozoon hellem in adult lovebirds (agapornis spp.) from a commercial flock is reported. five animals presented clinical symptoms of keratoconjunctivitis, blepharospasm, and bilateral blepharoedema, with seropurulent secretion. coproparasitological diagnosis was carried out in fecal samples, with negative results. two animals were necropsied, with detection of spores and other developmental stages of microsporidium in conjunctival smears. the confirmation of the diagnosis was accomplished by the polimerase chain reaction with specific primers for 18s subunit of the rrna of e. hellem, followed by sequencing of amplified fragments, which revealed 100% of genetic similarity to e. hellem. this study is the first report of e. hellem infection in birds in brazil.

Abstract: we report the identification to the species level of a microsporidian isolated from the bronchoalveolar lavage of an aids patient in spain. characterization of the isolate was performed by: 1) morphological methods using optical and electron microscopy; 2) immunological methods such as immunofluorescence assay (iif) and immunoblot (wb) using specific antiserum and, 3) polymerase chain reaction (pcr) using species-specific primers designed on the coding region of the small subunit of the ribosomal rna gene. ultrastructural features allowed the identification of the isolate as belonging to the encephalitozoon genus. species identification as encephalitozoon hellem was achieved by iif and wb using polyc lonal rabbit serum anti-e. hellem (cdc:0291:v213), as well as, by pcr using ehelf/ehelr species-specific primers. the isolate has been named ehvs-96 and has been maintained for 3 years in vero-e6 monolayers. this is the first isolation in culture and characterization of e. hellem in spain.

Abstract: microsporidia are emergent and opportunistic protozoa that are responsible for diseases with high morbidity and mortality, especially among individuals with immune disorders. this study had the aim of determining the clinical-laboratory profile of these agents. in total, 723 patients were evaluated, divided into two groups: i) immunosuppressed/immunodepressed individuals; ii) apparently immunocompetent individuals. after obtaining free informed consent, these patients were interviewed and gave fecal samples. these samples were all subjected to the hpj, rugai and faust techniques and to specific staining for coccidia and microsporidia. the frequency of microsporidia was 1.3% (5/393) in group i, whereas it was a quarter of this in group ii. the occurrence of other opportunistic intestinal parasites was also greater in group i. it was concluded, firstly, that these agents are present in our environment and, secondly, that there is a need to improve the clinical and laboratory diagnosis, in order to define the geographic distribution of these agents in the state of goiás and throughout brazil.
