Advances in Nanoparticles (ANP) , 2025, DOI: 10.4236/anp.2025.144010
Abstract: These days, nanotechnology has provided an enormous benefit to the aviation and aerospace industries for improved manufacturing, spacecraft, fuels, health, and more. The objective of this paper is to review and propose a higher level of nanotechnology development in the aviation industry. While space exploration and tourism have sparked an appreciation for Earth’s environmental changes from space, numerous criticisms have highlighted the significant negative impact space travel has made on the environment. Here, nanotechnology is presented as a field that can both enhance space tourism and mitigate its environmental impact on the Earth. Specifically, this paper starts with a review of what material properties are needed for space exploration and suggests the use of nanotechnology in the development of improved composite materials for jet engines, propulsion, and durability, considering aeronautical standards and aerospace developments, and introducing the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI). This research includes aerospace and aeronautical industry manufacturers, their new nanotechnological strategies and breakthroughs, as well as failed attempts during manufacturing or operations. Addressing the failures, this research indicates possible future steps for developing nanotechnology in unmanned and manned aircraft to reduce harm to the environment while still achieving space exploration.

Advances in Aerospace Science and Technology (AAST) , 2021, DOI: 10.4236/aast.2021.62006
Abstract: Modern day VTOL fixed-wing aircraft based on quadplane design is relatively simple and reliable due to lack of complex mechanical components compared to tilt-wings or tilt-rotors in the pre-80’s era. Radio-controlled aerobatic airplanes have thrust-to-weight ratio of greater than unity and are capable of performing a range of impressive maneuvers including the so-called harrier maneuver. We hereby present a new maneuver known as the retarded harrier that is applicable to un/manned fixed-wing aircraft for achieving VTOL flight with a better forward flight performance than a quadplane in terms of weight, speed and esthetics. An airplane with tandem roto-stabilizers is also presented as an efficient airframe to achieve VTOL via retarded harrier maneuver, and detailed analysis is given for hovering at 45° and 60° and comparison is made against the widely adopted quadplane. This work also includes experimental demonstration of retarded harrier maneuver using a small remotely pilot airplane of wingspan 650 mm.

Advances in Aerospace Science and Technology (AAST) , 2024, DOI: 10.4236/aast.2024.93006
Abstract: This paper is focused on a higher-level report of a new generation of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technologies. Starting from the structural scalability of civil tiltrotors, design strategy and requirements for UAVs, and advanced composite materials, the increased speed and productivity requirements for tiltrotors have spawned several investigations associated with proprotor aero elastic stability augmentation and aerodynamic performance enhancements. The research emphasized the Large Civil Tilt Rotor as the configuration with the best potential to meet the technology goals, and the design, including the challenges of the Large Civil Tilt Rotor (LCTR). The design presented was economically competitive, with the potential for substantial impact on the air transportation system. The research includes some manufacturers of helicopters, drones and tiltrotors carrying out design studies and production of prototypes, as well as research projects aimed at designing, manufacturing, qualifying, and flight-testing the new wing of the Next-Generation Civil Tiltrotor Technology Demonstrator. Promises of Vertical Take-off and Landing (VTOL) aircraft, UAVs, Digitalization of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), and the “U-space” concept are discussed in the paper. The eight SUMP principles and possibilities of future advancements are emphasized.

Computational Water, Energy, and Environmental Engineering (CWEEE) , 2024, DOI: 10.4236/cweee.2024.132006
Abstract: The formation of urban climates constitutes a distinctive system intrinsically linked to the urban environment. This study aims to delve into the impact of the urban environment on climatic variables. The Urban Weather Generator (UWG) algorithm was employed to generate climatic data, facilitating the creation of an epw climate file that corresponds to the urban characteristics surrounding the Centro Politécnico campus at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). Comprehensive analyses encompassing land use, occupancy patterns, albedo, surface absorption, anthropogenic heat, and architectural attributes were conducted. A comparative assessment between the UWG-derived air temperature values and meteorological station data revealed that the UWG effectively characterizes the air temperature patterns around the UFPR campus. The anticipated air temperature values consistently surpass the original dataset (SWERA), which was utilized as input, primarily during the hours from 3 p.m. to 7 a.m., showcasing the unmistakable urban heat island phenomenon.

Yanying Li, Tom Voege
Journal of Transportation Technologies (JTTs) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jtts.2017.72007
Abstract: Mobility as a service (MaaS) is a relatively new concept, which holds the promise for a paradigm shift in the provision of urban mobility. The concept of MaaS is to use a single app to access and pay for various transport modes within a city or beyond; and the app will give options to allow a traveller to select the most suitable transport mode. The concept of MaaS is enabled by the current mass uptake of smartphones and social media as well ubiquitous internet connection. By studying current applications of MaaS in Europe and US conditions of operation of MaaS have been summarised. Based on the necessary conditions, a checklist has been developed for potential developers of MaaS to assess if they can implement MaaS in a city. This paper also discusses challenges of implementation of MaaS and their potential impacts on urban mobility and societal changes.

EURE (Santiago) , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71612012000300002
Abstract: the contribution of the population trips to the emission of greenhouse effect gasses, in as much as they use mechanical means of transportation, mainly the automobile, is undeniable. many works agree on measuring this contribution at about 30 percent of the total greenhouse emissions. however, different means of transportation do not contribute in the same way to those emissions. therefore, it is of the utmost importance to analyze the modal split in the travels of one population to determine the degree of participation in the environmental contamination. this paper discusses the modal split in catalonia, based on theeveryday mobility survey (2006) data, from the territorial binomial urban/rural and from the motivational category that causes them.
