Antrocom : Online Journal of Anthropology , 2010,
Abstract: This study describes and examines the resource position and socio-psychological status of female heads of household in Rajshahi city of Bangladesh. For this, 120 households led by females were selected by convenience sampling from Rajshahi city, Bangladesh. The women heads were individually interviewed with semi-structured questionnaire method, focusing on access to resources and socio-psychological problems of the women who lead and run their households. The results of descriptive analysis and in-depth interviews suggest that absence of a male breadwinner and the lack of tangible resources led to a situation of increased vulnerability for the female heads of households in Rajshahi city, Bangladesh that, in turn, affect socio-psychological status of the female heads adversely. The study also suggests that the intangible resources like informal social support had, to some extent, compensated the scarcity of tangible resources for the female heads. In order to overcome the situations of female heads of households some policy implications are suggested. Based on probability sampling further research on this issue should be conducted in Bangladesh.
Evaluate the Productive and Reproductive Performance Considering Genotypes of Dairy Cows
- , 2016,
Abstract: Progress of production in dairy cattle is frequently considered possible by either improving the genetic merit and/or by husbandry practices. The aim of the research is to evaluation of productive and reproductive performance of dairy cows considering genotype was undertaken in greater Rajshahi from July, 2007 to June, 2009. A total 335 farmers data and 671 numbers of cows were considered for assessed in the local (L), Local x Friesian (LF), Local x Sahiwal (LS),Local × Friesian× Sahiwal(LFS) and Local × Jersey (LJ) dairy cows raised in randomly selected smallholder dairy farms and Duncan multiple range test for statistical significance. The overall mean values of age at puberty (month), age at first service, age at first calving (month), service per conception (s/c), post-partum heat period (days), days open (days), wastage days (days), gestation length (days), milk yield per day (liter), lactation length (days), milk yield per lactation (liter), weaning period (days), dry period (days), calving interval (days) and birth weight of calves (kg) were 26.37±.22, 26.56±0.23, 37.84±0.25, 1.43±.36, 85.83±1.57, 117.85±2.35, 13.33±1.02, 279.90±.33, 5.35±.12, 277.00±1.73, 1390.45±33.50, 213.21±2.35, 91.34±1.47, 398.81±2.34 and 22.51±.21, respectively in different genotypes of cows. Considering the overall performance it could be concluded that Local×Sahiwal×Friesian (LSF) crossbred cows are more suitable for sustainable and profitable dairy farming in greater Rajshahi region.

Abstract: The study was conducted with the objectives to determine the market availability of animal sourced foods (ASF) and fish, and their share in the supply of biomass and protein through visiting the wet markets of metropolitan and municipality areas of Rajshahi district, Bangladesh. A preset questionnaire was used for recording the biomass weight of different ASF and fish in every four days interval in March, 2016. It was found that the supply of ASF (beef, chevon, chicken and egg) and fish in the metropolitan markets (80.20 and 35.89 t/d, respectively) was significantly higher (P<0.05) than any municipality wet market in the district (7.66 and 3.03 t/d, respectively). The market supply of biomass and its protein value of ASF were 3.64 and 4.33 times higher than fish. The chicken shared the highest amount of protein (28.19 %) followed by fish (26.8%), beef (26.21%), eggs (11.46%) and chevon (7.34%) during the study period. However, this initial work does not include milk, and the wet market of ASF and fish may have seasonal variations which needs to be explored through further research. In addition to them, socioeconomic status of consumers and regional variations are important which needs to be studied for addressing resource base safe food production help the strategic reduction of food insecurity in the country by 2030. Study of Clinical Waste Management at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in Bangladesh
- , 2017,
Abstract: The management of clinical waste is of great importance due to its infectious and hazardous nature that can cause risks on environment and public health. The study is conducted to evaluate clinical waste management practices and to determine the amount of waste generated at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in Bangladesh. A survey is driven to collect information about the practices related to waste segregation, collection procedures, type of temporary storage containers, on-site transport and primary dumping point, treatment of wastes, off-site transport, and final disposal options. This study indicates that the quantity of medical waste generated by RMCH is 156 kg/day. Almost half of the waste was similar to domestic waste and 20% of the waste is considered to be hazardous waste. The survey result shows that segregation of all wastes is not conducted according to consistent rules and standards where some quantity of medical waste is disposed of with domestic wastes. The most frequently used treatment method for solid medical waste is incineration which is not done regularly at RMCH and the position of the incinerator is not acceptable. Clinical wastes pose a significant impact on health and environment. From this study it can be said that there is an urgent need for raising awareness and education on medical waste issues. For further study, it is needed to collect more information on impacts, disposal and management to draw a clear conclusion. Need to collect information and examples from developed country or the country which has sound medical waste management system.

Current Urban Studies (CUS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/cus.2013.13003
Abstract: In this paper, a model of green urbanism (GU) incorporating the concept of planting trees and greeneries has been proposed. The GU model attempts to address challenges encountered by dynamically changing cities around the globe due to the increasing events of urban greeneries transforming into built-up areas. A framework is designed to develop a greenery-based conceptual model (GBCM) towards attaining a sustainable healthy livable (SHL) environment. The model is applied to mega city Dhaka as a case study considering its adopted greenery-based urban strategies and methodologies to deal with both social and economic aspects. In this context, we first revisit the present state-of-the-art of greeneries in Dhaka, then examine whether Dhaka is a SHL-city and finally, an attempt has been taken to revive Dhaka as GU to bring a sustainable healthy environment. The model has confirmed that greenery is the prime factor of green urbanism which could bring a number of fundamental environmental benefits such as reduction in energy use, pollution, waste generation, emission of greenhouse gas, impacts on climate and occurrence of natural disasters. The model thus developed has an implication on how city planners can adapt a priori approach to ensure sustainable health of populations combating unprecedented social, economic and environmental challenges of unsustainable, unhealthy, and unlivable (3U) cities due to insufficient greeneries.

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2017.55010
Abstract: The optimal city size is an intuitive and clear indicator of whether the current state of the city is efficient. So it is determined by the internal factors of the city and the way they are organized if the city operates as a container only. In the picture where the city network has become a normality of the existing economic organizations, the optimal city size theory, including the concept, the mechanism and the path need to be rethought. Therefore, this paper starts from the essential concept of optimal city size and analyzes the influences of urban network on urban production and internal attribute characteristics, and further briefly analyzes the influence path and mechanism of the urban network on the optimal city size.

Abstract: During initial evolution of human residences, the balance between human and nature was determined by nature and the relationship between human and nature was one-way. In the first stages of urbanization, humans did not have the required equipment for intervening in nature and upset the balance in it. Even after that, they would refrain from widely modification and destroying of nature when they became narrowly artisan. This balance was unhurt for a long time in history until the 19th century, where this relationship was broken by the rapid advancement of technology and as a result the increase in urbanization. Accordingly, presenting a model in order to preserve the relationship between human and nature in the city seems to be of a great significance. This research is carried out by a qualitative method in a descriptive-analytic form has reached a model through combining naturism, moralism, humanism and phenomenology as a novel approach in the relationship between human and nature in the city with an emphasis on the philosophical concept of nature and study of the types of the relationship between human, nature and city, nature during history and the current condition of nature in the cities.

Abstract: The idea of a city has changed over the course of human evolution and in modern times finding a definition as to what is exactly meant by a city has become a really difficult task. A city is signified not only by the structural differences it resembles something which is not accepted as a city for not having a physical built environment surrounded by concrete buildings and stagnation of office spaces, instead a city signifies a social reality and the interactions thereof, by which people come to differentiate a city from something which is not. This paper looks at the different definitions and ideologies brought forward by an urban sociologist in analysing the city while looking at the ecological, cultural and new urban sociological ideologies in defying and identifying the concept of a city.
