Javier Barrera,óscar;
Estudios Políticos , 2010,
Abstract: through fiscal design developed by josé maría castillo y rada in the years immediately after the independence from spain, this paper offers to the reader an insight into some of the fiscal challenges faced by the regional integration attempt known as the gran colombia. first, there is a brief tour to the fiscal structure of the last colonial years. secondly, it presents the general features of the proposal designed by castillo y rada and then the argumentation moves to the consideration of the challenges faced by this proposal. the paper concludes that historiographical models that have used the dichotomy liberalism / protectionism fall short in understanding the scope of this fiscal policy, which was formulated through a process of transition from colonial nueva granda system to the republican system, which operated as a complex set of adjustments, innovations and permanences.
PERIODISMO, FICCIóN Y REALIDAD: A PROPóSITO DE TODO SON PREGUNTAS, EL OJO DE CERRADURA Y SOMBRAS SOBRE SOMBRAS DE JUAN JOSé MILLáS Journalism, Fiction and Reality in Juan José Millás’ Todo son preguntas, El ojo de la cerradura, and Sombras sobre sombras

Alpha (Osorno) , 2008,
In the summers of 2004, 2005 and 2006 the Spanish writer Juan José Millás published a series of articles that later appeared in three volumes titled Todo son preguntas, El ojo de la cerradura and Sombras sobre sombras. His essays are best understood as a meditation about press photos that inspire both questions and answers, expressing a poetics grounded in a spatial conception of the world that explicitly invokes the platonic image of the cave. The writer utilizes literary fiction as a tool to interpret reality -represented here in the series of photos- and, in so doing, problematizes the limits between truth and appearance. It is only by adding shadows to a world replete with simulacra, Millás seems to say, that we can make any sense of the world at all.

Abad Merino, Mercedes
Al-Qantara : Revista de Estudios Arabes , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of this article is to show the structure of the procedure which led to the production of Romanceado texts and the features which originals were required to display. We approach such texts, which are documents of exceptional importance for historians, Arabists, Hispanists and translators, as a highly formalised example of everyday written translation, carried out by specialised translators or romanceadores. Both the process and the romanceamientos themselves follow a series of well-defined phases which are outlined in the article. For this study we have used an unedited 16th-century boundary dispute which contains two romanceamientos by the famous Granadans Juan Rodríguez and Alonso del Castillo.

Abstract: this paper analyzes a pioneering novel in the literary tradition of the colombian caribbean: ingermina, published by juan josé nieto during his exile to jamaica in 1844, and practically forgotten for a century and a half, until it was reedited in 1998. ingermina tells of the conquest of the kingdom of calamar and its conversion into the colonial cartagena of the new granada. the text revolves around the love between an indian woman and a spanish colonist. in contrast to other stories (such as the mexican malinche, iracema in brazil, etc.), nieto's novel offers a notably diverse view of the indigenous population, which is divided between radical and moderate anti-colonialists. my article analyzes the subsumption made by nieto, of a political antagonism under a moral antagonism. firmly planted within the context of colombia in the 19th century, i refer this subsumption to the limits of nieto's liberalism, one of the most radical of his time.
Luigi Contadini
Impossibilia : Revista Internacional de Estudios Literarios , 2013,
Abstract: This paper analyses the first three novels by Juan José Millás. They can be named Transition novels since they are both chronologically close to the most significant steps of the democratic process andfor the themes they approach, themes that hint at those multifaceted issues, uncanny and gloomy, that every age leaves at the margins of the public sphere. Through an investigation of the narrative strategies –with specific reference to time and enunciation– the essay highlights the most significant cruxes of those years, still partly unsolved and emblematically represented by characters in pain, trapped in a heavy memory; characters who desire a way out, but marked by the impossibility to envisage their own future.
