Quality management for the international transportation of non-human primates
David B. Elmore
Veterinaria Italiana , 2008,
Abstract: Safe and humane transportation of live animals requires dedicated, informed personnel who carefully plan and attend to the details of appropriate animal care and handling throughout the shipping process. Specifically, although transportation of non-human primates shares goals common to all live animal transport, it also poses unique challenges stemming from the nature of these animals. Some of these unique challenges of transporting non-human primates, include the impact of public perception of non-human primates as cargo, maintaining biosecurity of non-human primate cargo, safety of both the non-human primate and public contacts, meeting the vital husbandry needs of varying species of non-human primates and compliance with numerous regulatory agencies, which may have overlapping responsibilities. This discussion will focus on these important considerations, as they relate to the legal international transportation of non-human primates for scientific use.

Advances in Aerospace Science and Technology (AAST) , 2025, DOI: 10.4236/aast.2025.103007
Abstract: Big Data Analytics (BDA) is transforming industries worldwide, including the airline sector, by enabling data-driven decision making that improves operational efficiency and profitability. This research focuses on the application of BDA in Biman Bangladesh Airlines, a key player in Southeast Asia’s aviation market where adoption of such technologies is still emerging. Revenue management systems, crucial for airline profitability, benefit significantly from big data insights that influence fleet planning, fare structuring, and operational management. Using a mixed-methods approach, data were gathered from airline professionals and managers across Bangladesh, complemented by detailed case studies of Biman Bangladesh Airlines. The study examines how Biman leverages BDA to enhance flight punctuality, optimize passenger and cargo load factors, improve fuel efficiency, and increase customer satisfaction. Results demonstrate that effective use of big data analytics enables better decision-making, helping airlines respond flexibly to operational challenges and market demands. Despite these advantages, the research also highlights challenges related to building analytics capabilities and managing complex data environments in the airline industry. Overall, this study contributes to a better understanding of how airlines in developing markets can harness BDA strategically to boost revenue, improve competitiveness, and support sustainable growth.

Acta bioqu?-mica cl?-nica latinoamericana , 2008,
The purpose of the work is to introduce a package that fulfills the safety guidelines for transportation of Diagnostic Specimens as well as Infectious Substances, based on the IATA (Internacional Air Transport Association) Standards, the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods and the internal legislation in force. Journal of Data Analysis and Information Processing (JDAIP) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jdaip.2017.52004
Abstract: This research applies network structuring theories to the aviation domain and predicts aviation network growth, considering a flight connection between airports as a link between nodes. Our link prediction approach is based on network structure information, and to improve prediction accuracy, it is necessary to estimate the mechanism of aviation network growth. This research critically evaluates the prediction accuracy of two methods: the receiver operating characteristic curve method (ROC) and the logistic regression method. We propose a four-step method to evaluate the relative predictive accuracy among different link prediction methods. A case study of US aviation networks indicated that the ROC method provided better prediction accuracy compared with the logistic regression method. This result suggests that tuning of the prediction distribution and the regression model coefficients can further improve the accuracy of the logistic regression method.

Some Comments on the Recent Study “Tracing the woes: An Empirical Analysis of the Airline Industry”
Wellington Costa
Revista de Literatura dos Transportes , 2009,
Abstract: This study aims to review the current situation of the airline industry in the United Stated from the analysis of the recent paper “Tracing the woes: An Empirical Analysis of the Airline Industry”, developed by Steven Berry and Panle Jia (2008). The authors discuss the turmoil in the industry in the early 2000's, denoted by four major bankruptcy, two mergers and all legacy carriers reporting profit reduction. The study estimates the impact of demand and supply evolution on profitability using a structural model of the US airline industry. As a result, they found that air travel demand has become more price-sensitive and passengers have now a strong preference for nonstop flights. At the end the results showed significant changes of marginal cost benefited from the nonstop flights.[Paper in Portuguese]
Modeling Aircraft Emmisions by Flight
Gabriel Araújo
Revista de Literatura dos Transportes , 2008,
Abstract: The following paper intends to develop a translog model of the pollutants emission in Brazilian air transportation according to the flight stages characteristics (flight distance, aircraft type, etc). The model will focus on the segment of passenger transportation in civil aviation and the statistical model of fuel consumption will be based in a historical Brazilian database from 1997 to 2004. The assessment is performed in two stages. In the first, the translog consumption model is defined and estiamted; in the second, the pollutants emission coefficients are calculated through FAA’s (Federal Aviation Administration) spreadsheets. The developed model can be easily processed by computers and through the creation of an user interface can produce a brand new pollutants emission calculator.[Paper in Portuguese]
The Consequences of Economic Deregulation of Airlines in the US
Fábio Anderson Santos
Revista de Literatura dos Transportes , 2009,
Abstract: This paper aims to make a brief study of Borenstein and Rose (2008), which examines in detail the consequences of airline industry deregulation, particularly in the domestic passenger market in the US. This regulatory reform led to drastic changes in market variables, as price levels, airline network structure, service quality and market structure. The authors conclude that the biggest beneficiaries of deregulation were the passengers, mainly due to the increased accessibility to air travel generated by the act.[Paper in Portuguese]
