El Hadji Omar Ndao, Papa Dethie Ndao, Arame Top
Technology and Investment (TI) , 2026, DOI: 10.4236/ti.2026.171004
Abstract: The motivation for this article is to study the impact of COVID-19 on stock market trading volume within the WAEMU zone. We used a static panel data model for time-series (monthly) data from January 2020 to December 2021. The results of the analysis show that COVID-19 positively and significantly influenced the performance of the BRVM (Regional Stock Exchange).
Risk-Return of Securities in a Developing Market: The Case of the Bourse Regionale Des Valeurs Mobilieres  [PDF]

Journal of Financial Risk Management (JFRM) , 2022, DOI: 10.4236/jfrm.2022.111011
Abstract: The study of the risk-return relationship of securities is decisive in order to appreciate in particular the attractiveness of a financial market. Using the Asymetric Response Model (ARM), we show that the level of risk taken by investors is insufficiently remunerated on the BRVM market with regard to the risk premium obtained. This result confirms the relevance of the ARM model in developing markets. It also underlines the need to rebalance the risk-return relationship on the BRVM in order to make it more attractive.
Why African Companies Are Absent on the Bond Market? An Explanation through Companies Listed on the BRVM  [PDF]
Ndoume Essingone Hervé
Modern Economy (ME) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/me.2019.101015
Abstract:

This research provides some answers to the question of the limited presence of African companies in the bond markets. Indeed, from a sample of companies listed on the BRVM and panel models tested by the Generalized Moment Method (GMM) developed by Blundell and Bond [1], we study the behavior of the variables usually retained in the work on the determinants of bond issues. We show that the reputation, renegotiability and maturity of the debt, as well as the level of wealth created, determine the debt behavior of companies. Also, any financing strategy by bond issues should take into account these determinants.

Detection of Calendar Effects, Measurement of Investor Sentiment and Analysis of Their Effects on the Volatility of BRVM Returns  [PDF]
Djahoué Mangblé Gérald
Modern Economy (ME) , 2025, DOI: 10.4236/me.2025.1611083
Abstract: Our study focused on daily data from the Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) covering the period from 4 January 2014 to 26 February 2025. We selected five indices, including the two main indices and the three sector indices with the highest number of listed companies. Our goal was to detect the existence of calendar anomalies and analyse their combined effects with investor sentiment on stock market returns. To do this, we used two different approaches (linear modelling and the application of a binomial Logit model) on dummy variables for days of the week and the investor sentiment indicator. Using the linear regression approach, we tested the effect of investor sentiment and the days of the week on BRVM returns. The binomial Logit regression approach was then used to determine the effect of investor sentiment on market direction. Our various results showed that investor sentiment played an important role in the evolution of BRVM stock market returns. The results also indicate that there is no consensus on the effect of calendar anomalies, mainly those of the days of the week, on BRVM returns. Indeed, weekday anomalies vary according to the different indices. We also found that there was a positive and significant effect of the month (January effect) on the stock market. We justified this result through the literature as the result of strategies developed by investors and various market players to either avoid high taxation or as an opportunity to take advantage of year-end bonuses to acquire more assets in order to expand and diversify their stock portfolios.

The Competent Management Team as a Condition for Successful Crisis Solving  [PDF]
Drago Dubrovski
Open Journal of Business and Management (OJBM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojbm.2014.24038
Abstract: To stop adverse trends and handle the crisis situation on the one hand and to reach turning-point and insure the foundations for new development on the other hand are usually two basic tasks of crisis management when it performs necessary activities in the company in acute crisis. For the successful resolution of a crisis, it is of key importance that the crisis is tackled by managers who along with a desirable knowledge of the company’s activities are familiarized with the special characteristics of the crisis management and general creative (intuitive) approach. For their work crisis management will require strategic, as well as fully operational formal and empirical knowledge, possessing at least the minimum amount of knowledge from every business field. Based on the research described in this paper using the sample of selected companies undergoing acute crisis, it is emphasized that from all necessary competences, which crisis team members should possess, the most important thing is the knowledge and experiences from the area of radical restructuring of the company, whereas the familiarisation with the field of operation whose characteristics can soon be mastered by the crisis team members is less important. The financial view of the acute crisis resolution is very important; however, the company cannot further survive if only this area of operation is addressed.
Handling Corporate Crises Based on the Correct Analysis of Its Causes  [PDF]
Drago Dubrovski
Journal of Financial Risk Management (JFRM) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jfrm.2016.54024
Abstract: The extent of a crisis is simultaneously reflected in several areas, making it a complex or multidimensional phenomenon affecting the economic, social, traditional, psychological and legal aspects of an organization. An analysis of the real causes of a crisis or serious problems in a company’s operations, which should not be confused with the symptoms or consequences of a crisis, is extremely important, as it can be used to identify the areas whose effects need to be limited or eliminated. Despite the fact that in business practice there are often suggestions and pressures in the recovery procedure not to deal with the analysis of the causes that brought on the crisis, claiming that it is all in the past and solutions have to be found for the future, the analysis of the real causes for the preparation of a recovery plan of a company is as important as the preparation of the measures to achieve the desired changes. To resolve a crisis, its real causes need to be eliminated or minimised, while working on the wrong causes is just a further waste of time, money and effort, which only makes the crisis situation worse. In the empirical part of the article, using a sample of 164 Slovenian companies in difficulty, the causes, as were listed by the management of these companies, were studied, while two stances were adopted regarding the two set hypotheses.
Boundary Layers and Heavy Tails in Finance  [PDF]
Mamadou Birba, Moussa Bagayogo, Vini Yves Bernadin Loyara
Open Journal of Applied Sciences (OJAppS) , 2026, DOI: 10.4236/ojapps.2026.169182
Abstract: This paper proposes a unified framework combining Extreme Value Theory (EVT) and nonlinear partial differential equations to model financial returns on the BRVM. We conjecture a link between the EVT tail index ξ and the p-Laplacian exponent p: ξ=1/ ( p?1 ) . The conjecture is motivated by a heuristic boundary layer analysis (which suggests ξ=1/p ) but empirical fit on 20 BRVM assets unambiguously yields ξ=1/ ( p?1 ) . Using independent numerical estimation of p (via the SBA method) and ξ (via GPD), we find excellent agreement. Results show strong heterogeneity across sectors, with agriculture exhibiting the heaviest tails ( ξ up to 0.56) and violation of mean reversion. A stress-testing grid is proposed for regulators.
Current energy crisis and its economic and environmental consequences: Intense human cooperation  [PDF]
Marcelo S. Sthel, José G. R. Tostes, Juliana R. Tavares
Natural Science (NS) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ns.2013.52A036
Abstract:

In this paper, the evolution of the energy use by human society is discussed, relating the energy, environmental and economic crisis, which appear to be closely linked. With the widespread use of fossil fuels since the industrial revolution, a major environmental problem was generated: the climate changes. The economic consequences of climate changes are discussed in Stern (2006). Possible solutions to confront climate change are presented in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report (2007). Some of these solutions are based on technological development, while others do not directly depend on the technology (paradigm shifts). Faced with the needs of a new paradigm suggested by the IPCC, the recent concept of sustainable triangular cells (2012) was introduced. The geometric representation of triangular cells, which can be linked to form a regular hexagon, is used to demonstrate a sustainable society, where human cooperation prevails. This model is in line with one of the pillars of the Third Industrial Revolution, indicated by Rifkin, where an intense collaboration between individuals in human society is suggested.

A Look into Russia’s Post-Cold War Concerns and Future Implications in the Late 1990s Political Scene  [PDF]
Frank Fuller, Donald Bradt, Howard C. Smith
Open Journal of Political Science (OJPS) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojps.2014.44021
Abstract: This article discusses the major implications for Russia’s future immediately after the Cold War and primarily the period up into the late 1990s and beyond, when Russia was in turmoil politically and economically. It’s economy that had recently recovered to a point that Yeltsin had left and Putin was beginning to solidify his power. Predictions were made as to what Russia’s future looked like and how it appeared to be very similar to forecast its actions in the present day. The nationalistic sentiment felt in the late 1990s carried over to the current situation in Russia’s involvement in what could have been or where it would go years later. Overall, the future for Russia at the time looked positive, though the nation was uncertain what type of leader would emerge from the situation immediately following the Cold War Period and after an economic crisis.
