Abstract:

Green tea, a health beverage that has garnered increasing attention, is widely reported to possess various biological activities, including anticancer, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory effects. Among its components, epigallocatechin is a catechin compound found in relatively high concentrations in green tea, with a comparatively prominent bioavailability. It exhibits multiple pharmacological effects such as anti-tumor, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties, demonstrating significant research and development value. This article systematically reviews the diverse biological activities of epigallocatechin and its primary mechanisms of action, summarizes its absorption and metabolic characteristics, and analyzes the current status of its pharmaceutical formulation research. The results indicate that epigallocatechin holds promising application prospects for development into efficient and stable novel pharmaceutical agents.
