GEO-INFORMATICS FOR URBAN GREEN FILTERSKeywords: Climate change , decision support , geo-information technology Abstract: Geo-informatics can substantially contribute to urgent improvements of urban climate and a reduction of greenhouse gases to mitigate climate change in general. Consequently, they are associated with opportunities provided through geo-informatics, supporting (environmental) decision making. Geo-informatics provides a variety of software tools for identification, investigation, geo- and attribute database management, mapping, simulation, and decision making support. This article focuses primarily upon software to handle the Urban Green Filters concept, called Urban Green Promotion System (UGPS), mainly to search for available and suitable sites to be used. Such land, however, require legal decision support to guarantee as much as possible sustainability. Geo-informatics offers various cross-cutting systems to register and appraise land, to fix land into adequate urban planning rules, and environmental maintenance (as well as enforcement) management. Each of the explained systems is accompanied with examples from practice.
