INUTILIA TRUNCAT: UMA LEITURA DO CONTO “CIVILIZA O” DE E A DE QUEIRóS (INUTILIA TRUNCAT: A READING ON CIVILIZATION BY E A DE QUEIRóS )

The present study aims to accomplish a reading of the tale "Civiliza o” (1892) by E a de Queirós. Through the analysis of the changes occurred in the protagonist’s library during the narrative, it is possible to observe that the author uses the titles of the books as a textual strategy that shows the ideological change in the main character. As in other works by this author, Literature becomes a character in the Ecian tale.
