PARNASIANISMO BRASILEIRO: CONSERVADOR E TRANSGRESSORKeywords: Parnassianism. Literary System. Literary Discourse. Abstract: Underestimated by most Brazilian scholars, such as Antonio Candido, the Parnassian poetry of Brazil, as the embodiment of the official literary style of the First Republic and the consolidation mark of our literary system, holds an evident conservative aspect which, on the other hand, lives side by side with the transgression of its aesthetically oriented discourse that often presents images of a perverse eroticism, demonstrating traces of the decadent movement, in which it reflects the stylistic eclecticism of the period. The poetry written by Olavo Bilac, the writer most identified with the Parnassian style in Brazil, typifies this ambiguous aspect of our Parnassianism, confirming its paradox.
