New anathemas: conscientious objection and freedom to access to drugs in emergency contraceptionDOI: 10.7362/2240-2594.037.2012 Keywords: emergency contraception , levonorgestrel , conscientious objection Abstract: Emergency contraception is by definition a time of critical activity within medical-surgical. The freedom of a woman who is to request it represents a crucial question of who may encounter an obstacle on conscientious objection to the prescriber. This possibility, which is regulated and proper application in circumstances such as abortion, artificial insemination, animal experiments, it was not, however, provided by a rule of law in emergency contraception.Among the methods used in the context of emergency contraception is becoming more and more nowadays called "Morning-after pill": a formulation based on Levonorgestrel (LNG) which is readily available and easily administered (it is a single or a double dose), combined with a very low cost, and minimizing associated with symptomatic any side effects, have made it the "emergency drug ".The paper analyzes, then, scientific knowledge on LNG and, in particular, studies that demonstrate the absence of drug activity on the next step in the formation of the human embryo and its implantation: this was, however, repeatedly stressed as the foundation of freedom of objection by the physician, but can not find adequate support in the available scientific evidence. It is hoped, ultimately, a matter of regulation, allowing the doctor the exercise of the right, consistent with personal beliefs, ethical, moral, religious, also allows women the free access to the drug.
