Singular domestic injury by atypical pointed objectDOI: 10.7362/2240-2594.029.2012 Keywords: impalement injury , accidental fall , wooden foreign body Abstract: This is a particular case of death of a woman from an impalement in the left cervical area, by a peculiar injurious object (bamboo cane) which penetrated following an accidental fall. The necropsy exam ascertained that the atypical pointed object created a dead-end path, causing the divarication and tearing of the cervical and thoracic structures along its way, in particular the median portion of the aortic arch and therefore the front side of the pericardial sac with consequential death by hemorrhagic shock. The authors trace, in addition, briefly the literature on the subject.
