Abstract:

the objective was to review scientific literature in the area of entrepreneurship presented at the academy of management meeting (aom - meeting), from 1954 to 2005. the research was exploratory with a qualitative research and bibliographical design in its first phase. here the 91 articles identified in the ebsco database, in business source premier, were classified according to field studies of entrepreneurship, based on themes proposed by vésper (1977) and schreier and komives (1973). the highlights were: small business administration, entrepreneurship and innovation, and psychology. there was a trend of interest for the action process of the company. the second phase of the research was descriptive, with quantitative method, performed by the technique of citation analysis, where the 2127 references in the 91 articles were analyzed based on the work of béchard (1996) and grégoire et al. (2006). with respect to the average life of the cited literature it was eleven years. thus, there is a time interval between the publication of works and their effective citation in the articles analyzed in the aom - meeting, from 1954 to 2005. the elite group was composed of 19 authors and is represented by arnold c. cooper, with 36 citations. a total of 30 authors possessed relevant works that impacted this literature. the highest impact factor fell to the works of joseph alois schumpeter. since aom - meeting the largest international event and the oldest in business administration from its relevance is recognized. thus, the results of this research add to the knowledge of the literature generated and the authors who contributed to the studies in support of entrepreneurship in a period of coverage of more than fifty years.
