Género, etnicidad y cambio cultural: feminización del sistema de cargos en Cuetzalan

from a gender and ethnic perspective, this article examines the cultural change in indigenous contexts and, specifically, those changes affecting the position and condition of indigenous women. we aim to document the processes followed by the cultural changes regarding the overcoming of women exclusion, and analyze the factors that cause such changes. this analysis will reveal whether the change is a real pro-equity transformation in gender relations or, on the contrary, it is just a new form of traditional gender subordination. the case that we will analyze in this article focuses on the recent and increasing participation of women in the cargo system, which represents a cultural change in relation to the traditional women exclusion in this social and communal institution.
