Sobre el estudio empírico de la solidaridad: aproximaciones conceptuales y metodológicasDOI: 10.4067/S0718-65682012000100021 Keywords: solidarity, modernity, social stratification, social exclusion. Abstract: solidarity, understood as a social and communicative operationdestined to maintain people’s cohesion in the context of modern society, evidencesthe permanence of a stratified social order that produces exclusion from certainsocial rights. this article attempts to further discuss this definition by offering anempirical and multidimensional analysis of solidarity conducts in chile. throughan univariate analysis and manova analysis of data from the "survey ofsolidarity 2010" (n = 1389) generated by the measurement center mide uc ofthe pontifical catholic university, we conclude that there are certain variables ofsocial stratification that currently predict and address the solidarity′s orientationsin chile. this suggests that the need for solidarity not only responds to a stratifiedoutlining of modern society, but also that different axes of stratification influencethe social dimensions of solidarity.
