Abstract: between 1938 and 1963 the confederation of latin american workers (ctal) was the largest union and with more international links that have being registered. labor historiography on the ctal developed an superficial and uncritical work during the second half of the twentieth century research. this articles reviews many of these studies, concluding that there are many shadows and few lights of the historic role that of this organization in a period of great importance, as were the postwar period and the eve of the cold war. to advance the prospects need to be directed toward new directions.
