the annexation to tawantinsuyu involved deep transformations of northwestern argentine social organizations. it is likely that the cuzque？an state aspirations to impose its own political, economical, and ideological rules had clashed with current regional principles, particularly in those areas where complex societies with efficient material and symbolical production systems were developed. in this study we explore the articulation of state administration and southern yocavil valley organizations through the changes and continuities in ceramic and metal production as well as ceremonial practices. we propose that inka domination in the study area was not only the consequence of the specific interests of cuzque？an power, but also of the conditions of the local systems' organizational qualities and resistance strategies that were deployed during this process
