Abstract: the study of a grinding tool of assemblage from an archaic context on the semiarid northern chilean coast is presented. this context corresponds to a large seasonal residential camp of hunter-gatherers who occupied the coast during the middle holocene, while arid climatic conditions were dominant. the technical analysis suggests that the grinding tools wew used in the preparation of mineral pigments and plant food, providing an important piece of information for a better understanding of the study area
