Abstract: wandering spleen is a rare clinical entity, characterized by an abnormal position of the spleen, secondary to the absence or weakness of the splenic ligaments. the most common clinical presentation is as an acute abdomen associated with splenic torsion, but the condition can also present as recurrent abdominal pain or an asymptomatic mass. because of its rarity, a heightened awareness of the condition is required for accurate diagnosis. abdominal ultrasound is the initial study of choice, but computed tomography, magnetic resonance, angiography and liverspleen scan are excellent adjuncts, when the diagnosis remains in question. when a wandering spleen is diagnosed, treatment of choice is splenopexy. we report a case of wandering spleen and make a review of the world literature.
