the raising children program at "dr. noel h. sbarra" hospital in la plata, argentina, a traditionally community-committed program, is turning its sixties. it was developed as an alternative to children institutionalization, and has survived several cycles of political instability and economical crisis in the country, developing clinical strategies, increasing our knowledge, and advocating teamwork, and interdisciplinarity. research and teaching activities were used to reach several goals, such as increasing the influence of the program on the community, stimulating the interchange of experiences, promoting children growth and development, and looking for answers that would help to face poverty and marginality. based on the concept of primary health attention, and with a history of achievements in our community, the raising children assistance program is an interdisciplinary tool to assist families in medicalsocial risk.
