this article reviews the book of ignacio domeyko araucanía y sus habitants？ (araucania and its inhabitants？) from a critical perspective. we state that the polish author, though of a humanistic-christian orientation, has a classic ethnocentric vision, with the idea of the good savage and with a justification for killing mapuche aborigines, settled in the south of chile. all of this aiming at achieving the civilizatory process longed-for by the chilean state.
