Tragicum principium et comicum finem en dos guiones cinematográficos de Jorge Luis BorgesKeywords: jorge luis borges, aesthetics, archetypes, cinema scripts. Abstract: this essay attempts an exploration of how certain elements of an aesthetics of risky vicissitudes and happy endings are embedded into two scripts written by jorge luis borges with adolfo bioy casares: "los orilleros" and "el paraíso de los creyentes". to do so, we will make observations on how the scripts present an aesthetics that looks na?ve at first sight, and that contains mythical landmarks and eternal universal arguments of the cinema. borges stands as a milestone of culture, of civilization, of erudition. supposedly, these categories would distance him from thoughts about the excluded, the vulgar, the local tough guy. however, these cultural milestones are intertwined with archetypes that borges carefully selects and that we can appreciate in his scripts as ways to counteract tragedy without necessarily turning comic. in this essay we will focus on the observation of elements such as defiance, courage, honor, destiny, revenge, and happy endings. more than elements, these are themes of universal arguments in cinema that we find in works from the odyssey, through shakespearian tragedies, to borges?s writing.
