Abstract: this article discusses the relationships between the corporeality and the subjectivity of young people from low-income urban contexts of florianopolis, in southern brazil, as part of multi-centered research work conducted in five brazilian capitals on the exercise of young people's sexual and reproductive rights, which included 18 interviews and eight focus groups, discriminated by sex and age ranges. in the stories of male and female youths it was possible to discern a great concern with their body image, following a standard national pattern of middle and urban socio-economic levels, according to which a "worked out" body is a healthy body. considering bodies as symbols that validate and signify subjects, it is important to highlight the significant influence of gender and class markers in the "training of bodies", defining and redefining social relations and the meanings given by young people to corporeality and their ways of doing things in the world.
