El boxeo como tecnología de la masculinidad

the culture of boxing has produced a teaching system which expands through time and space with remarkable regularity. it reproduces a series of technologies of the self (foucault), and at the same time is inscribed in a gendered symbolic order which gives hierarchical values and places to subjects; therefore, we argue that boxing is a technology of gender (de lauretis). the field research presented in this paper allows us to see how the learning of boxing integrates the fighters into a complex social structure, isolated and defended as an exclusive preserve of masculinity in a way of working that incorporates several dimensions of body, gender and education.
