ESTUDIO MORTALIDAD POR TB MUNICIPIO DE PASTO 2009

Abstract:

tuberculosis is an infectious disease that despite the plans and proposed intervention strategies worldwide, it presents an average of nine million new cases each year, the co-infection with hiv/aids and multidrug resistance affect more to young people with chronic basis, so it is necessary the early identification of respiratory symptoms for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. the panamerican health organization considers the municipality of pasto as a demonstrative area in the implementation of tb program. this has allowed a strict monitoring and control to patients. due to that, it was reported the deaths of seven people in 2009, which alerted the municipal government and pasto salud ese proposed to conduct a case study which makes the identification of patients’ risk factors possible and the probable improvement actions to prevent mortality associated with this pathology. the study was an observational case series design. the data collection was done by reviewing clinical records, mandatory reporting reports and death certificates. this information was entered in an excel database and it was analyzed using basic statistics. in the results the following characteristics were foun: all patients had social security, there is no difference between sexes the average age was ± 55, mortality was associated with high-cost and/or chronic basis, all patients were hospitalized in intensive care units or in international medicine, the average stay was ± 37 days, there was a delay in the diagnosis of ± 27 days, the average between diagnosis and treatment was ± 2 days and the time between the onset of symptoms and death averaged ± 47 days. flaws in safety of care in 86% of the patients studied were shown. this study was proposed and performed as a contribution from pasto salud ese for taking corrective action and avoiding preventable deaths because of this history for the cohort 2010-2011.
