Pasado y antigüedad clásica en los discursos sobre ciudades: Las Laudes en la historiografía andaluza

urban histories resulted from an imbrications of the "real city" and the "imagined city" in the thoughts and representations of its people, clergymen, noblemen and intellectuals which emphasized ideas received from the past. in them myths and statements from classical sources became weapons of propagation of ideals or utopias in the pursuit of specific ends such as to increase the fame of spain and exalt the glory of its cities. the historians resorted especially to the classical age where they found -moved by nostalgia or the awareness of its power or its decadence- a glorious past, and firm feelings of identity and reasons (old titles, and privileges) to strengthen or restore a position of precedence within a new order or in a new context.
