Comportamiento fenológico híbridos guatemalteca por antillana de aguacate en la región centro-norte costera de Venezuela

a description of the phenological behavior of hybrid cultivars of guatemalteca x antillana avocados, persea spp., was performed. plant population consisted of 25 trees older than 10 years of age located in a dry tropical forest. phenological behavior was related with rain regimes during four annual production cycles, between 2001 and 2005. an annual cycle was considered to begin the last week of july (week 1) and ended the penultimate week of the same month (week 52) of the following year. the beginning and duration of growth, flowering and fructification events were established according to the appearance of the corresponding structures for each phase on 5% of tree tops and 16% of tree population. growth occurred during the months with heaviest rains (august-october and may) and the number of growing fluxes for each cycle varied between 2 and 4, preceding or simultaneous to flowering. beginning of 549 flowering was associated to the occurrence of minimum temperatures of 20 oc y 19 oc. duration was variable (70 days to 175 days) and maximum intensity happened between weeks 28 and 35 (february- march). flowering took place with abundant or no rain. fructification started four or five weeks after the beginning of flowering and lasted 6 to 6,5 months.
