Abstract: this work explores the links established between the italian christian democracy and chile's christian democrat party during the sixties. moreover, it considers the relationships between the italian and chilean governments, based on documentation that was, until now, unknown. of particular interest is the regular mail correspondence between eduardo frei montalva and some of the representatives and leaders of the italian christian democracy (fanfani, moro, bernassola and freato). the article offers insights to debate about the reasons that encouraged the italian christian democracy to invest financial resources and time in a distant latin american geopolitical scenario, which was, with the exception of cuba, part of united states sphere of influence.
