LA EVOLUCIóN POLíTICO-CONSTITUCIONAL DE CHILE 1976-2005

the present paper is an analysis of the political and constitutional developments in chile in the period 1976-2005, and once developed the coup d'état led by the armed forces, considering the institutionalization of authoritarian military regi-me, the establishment of the constitution 1980 and the evolution of the regime until 1988, when the head of state, general augusto pinochet lost the plebiscite and must negotiate with the dissidents, agreed on a transition to democracy that includes a substantial package of constitutional reforms. it follows with the development of the institutional system since the installation of democratic governments from march 1990 until 2005, as the major constitutional reforms for the period ending with the great reform of 2005, which removes the last authoritarian enclaves of the 1980 constitution. we analyze the system of government, political parties and the electoral system, the evolution of the system of constitutional jurisdiction and the system of fundamental rights.
