EL ESTATUS TAXONOMICO DE GRAUS FERNANDEZIANUS PHILIPPI 1887: NUEVO REGISTRO GEOGRAFICO Y COMENTARIOS SOBRE GRAUS NIGRA PHILIPPI 1887 (OSTEICHTHYES: PERCIFORMES), EN CHILE

the finding of an inedit original drawn of graus fernandezianus, is used to enlight the origin of such specific name and its short taxonomic history, leading to the conclusion that it is not a synonym of graus nigra, but better represents a specimen of malapterus reticulatus, a fish of the family labridae. the situation of nomen nudum is suggested to be changed into junior synonym of m. reticulatus. on the other hand, the capture of one specimen of graus nigra, in the coast of valdivia, extends the geographical southern limit of this species about 500 km the south, in the so-called central-chile marine biogeographic district. graus nigra is a strictly littoral species (inter and subtidal), which has been commercially exploited, as well as captured in sport fisheries, aspect on which the authors call attention, in order to promote a better control on the captures
